We’ve been getting about double that at SEA and here the last few years. Last year had 5 here at my house. 2020 and 2019 just one but 2013-2018 had more than normal every year. Not saying it’s uncommon to hit 90 though not that unusual just happening more often.

No doubt. The long term averages have been pushed up by at least 20% the past 15 or so years.

Lucky #7 for EUG!

Whose jersey will it be?

LF from Tampa. Big year for him again with Lord Brady back under center.

And Drew Lock can be Stan Gelbaugh 2.0

Hopefully at least 1 snow game this season for them in any case.

Arguably the worst climate in the country.

This inspired me to take a look at a modern history of 100+ degree days at PDX:

1970’s: 14, 102 average max

1980’s: 15, 102.2 average max

1990’s: 12, 100.8 average max

2000’s: 15, 102.1 average max

2010’s: 13, 101.2 average max

2020’s: 5, 108.2 average max

Pretty tight range overall among a warming climate, until…..

This upcoming heatwave should bring down that average for the 2020s nicely.

You have brought back some memories of some lean years as a Seahawks fan by mentioning that name.

84/57 today. 2/3rds through July we’re -0.4 this month but we will probably finish something like +2.0 the way it’s looking now.

I only got to 83 today. You are warmer for a change. Not much of a breeze today so maybe that’s the difference.

Think it might’ve been the wind for sure but also the direction. Seemed like it was more westerly today as opposed to NE which reduced the cooling effect. Not a bad day though wasn’t too hot.

That starts during one of the coldest periods on record though.  Pretty handy it didn't start in the late 1930s.

More like 5 days in the 88-95 degree range most likely.

I think people are making too big a deal out of this.  The ridge axis stays west of us the whole time so the heat will be bone dry anyway.  The 18z GFS shows incredible bliss after the heat as well, which is in agreement with all of the models now.

A heat wave of this duration is actually pretty significant but ok. Might not getting to 100 here but it looks a lot like July 2006 and 2009.

I'm not seeing 2009.  This setup is a little bit different with the ridge being more to our NW.

Not talking about the ridge position talking about the temps. Pretty unlikely we hit 100 at all but a few days in the upper 80s-low to mid 90s isn’t a “short heat window” in the Puget sound area.

BTW....the insanely warm biased GFS is "only" going for 99 on the hottest days vs the 118 it was showing last June.  Also...the 18z GFS nibbled away at the duration a little bit.

1941 was actually the first full year of records at the current PDX site. And was a bona fide torch even by today's standards.

The graph looked it started in 1945 or something like that.

EDIT:  I see it did begin in 1941.  I'm sure UHI is partially responsible for the steady rise.  Rural stations with a long record are the best gauge.  Still warmer, but not to that degree.

I’ll probably be camping out in my friends yard with some beers for a few nights…only thing I kinda enjoy about heatwaves is the warm nights that follow. Might as well try and have a good time lol.

I was talking about the big picture.  It's not going to be a big heat blast couched in an overall fairly hot few weeks.

I was talking about ridge position because it's important in dictating how hot it will actually get.
