Beaver Utah action!  Found a place to park under this dark mass and just enjoyed the music of thunder! Lightning was mostly in the clouds but a few strikes to ground as well.  Lots of rain accompanied. The one shot almost looks like a waterfall off the storm…so cool

This is the most tepid, boring 500mb pattern for a heatwave I can remember since 2015. Just a sprawling west coast ridge forcing down hot air without much of a dynamic/easterly component. That summer had this pattern for a good majority of July too.

It’s been kinda weird having a humid heatwave with slight marine influence every morning then shooting into the low 90s. Usually whenever we hit the 90s it’s a dry heat.

Pretty insanely consistent profile for each day. Would take some research, but I would guess for down here we’ve never seen a stretch of seven consecutive days with thicknesses above 580dm at their diurnal peak.

At this stage, is anyone NOT expecting a nasty, smoky spell in August and/or September?

Seems likely but if we can avoid any significant ridging and keep onshore flow going we will be fine. Plus the models show some precip coming up. Not enough to really soak things down but better than nothing.

Our dewpoint is 69 right now. Ugh...

I wish I could move to Florence, amazing area, and so pleasant, sunny and in the 60s the past couple of days with nighttime fog and low clouds.
