On and off drizzle all day up here in Bellingham only .16" in the rain bucket.

That is my mantra, life is way too short to worry about something 100% out of our control.

What a day today.  It rained pretty hard here in The Swamp.

Not sure if it was localized or what.  The in laws live out on Meridian and said it just sprinkled.  Let me tell you something, it rained like a mo fo here for quite a while.  Like a cold November rain.

Sure was nice having a few nice summer days though.

Today feels great, it's absolutely wonderful.  57F, some light showers throughout the day.  It's very refreshing and it was a nice day to work in the yard.  I got a ton of pruning and plant transfers done.  I'll take days like this anytime. Quite misty over the water too.  Cascade's are hidden from view due to low hanging clouds.

What a complete turnaround from the day before.

More rain and storm cells in Rogue and Shasta valleys on the radar as well as Eastern OR. Rain even moving into Redding area which is quite rare in July. Love to see fire season getting staved off more and more. Hopefully a 2019 type situation with almost no big fires throughout the summer.

It's great for this year but don't you think all this rain and cool weather will just provide more fuel for next year?  What then?

Yea it’d probably be best if it just never rained there again then there’d be no trees or anything to burn

The fires are bad.  I get that.  Some burning/fires is normal and natural and needed.  There will be a flip side of this coin. Hopefully life and property are spared.

Clear and upper 60s to mid 70s east of the Cascades right now.  You just don't see that very often this time of year.

California literally just had its two worst wildfire seasons on record, by far. The areas burned in 2021 were overwhelmingly in the northern third of the state, too. Oregon had an extremely rare major westside fire outbreak in 2020 and a severe season last year as well.

We need another 5-7 quiet fire seasons West Coast-wide before we can talk about the “other side of the coin”. Good lord.

Given the intensifying and stationary occlusionary rain band sitting right atop the Sound, alongside the setting sun, it's safe to assume KSEA has already seen it's high temperature for the day.

Today's midnight high of 58F is the first sub-60 high in July since 2001, and the coldest July high temperature since 58F on 7/17/1999. Even given this, it's not actually a record for today's date. Today in 1966 it only reached 56F. If we had cooled off faster before midnight, we would have tied that figure, since after 1am 56F is the warmest we've been.

58F also ties for the coldest high temperature recorded on any July day since 1967, and ties 7/16/1986 and 7/17/1999 for the 4th coldest recorded highs for the month, ever.

A midnight high w/ afternoon cooling and an afternoon low temp is ASTOUNDING for early July. To do this twice during the early warm season, back on 6/12 and now 7/3, is pretty remarkable. A quite dynamic early summer we are having this year.

No doubt.  Pretty much all of the records this year have been record lows and record low maxes.  There have been some truly notable chilly periods from April onward.  Can't wait to see if we can pull off a cool August this year.

Bend is in a transition area. North of Bend yes there are few trees that aren’t junipers as you go down the Deschutes River Valley to the Columbia. The dry continental transition zone between the crest and the desert gets much much wider south of downtown Bend. Creates a big high plateau area between the Cascade Crest and the Great Basin Desert.

CA is screwed... obviously going to be a serious fire season down there since it had been so incredibly dry.  And Alaska is burning as well.   Maybe next year it will be the PNW again.    Good luck keeping fire away from the western US for 7 years given that it has burned every summer for thousands and thousands of years.

Everyone should keep selfishly cheering for endless Ninas while telling people who want some 70s and sun in the summer that they are selfish.  😀

Personally I have never been raining or cold on the 4th of July, as a human, pretty sure that isn't possible for us to do within ourselves.  However, I have had a cold on the 4th of July before, I got over it.

I bet that 95% of people in Seattle think the same thing about today's weather.   What joy is there in having Thanksgiving weather on the 4th of July weekend?    Depressing lack of seasonal variety.   Not worried about the Seattle area spontaneously combusting either.   Days are getting shorter and fall is coming.   It's so silly to cheer against having nice summer weather in our short window.  Just my opinion of course.   But I am certain if you ask around it would be the VAST majority opinion.   Obviously.   And you would feel the same if you lived here.  😀

By your own definition, 70 degree sunshine is "nice" summer weather.

We are capable of seeing that any time from roughly late February to early November. That is over 2/3 of the year. Not a short window unless you think we should be San Diego.

Seeing it for 2 hours in March is different than our small window to enjoy it consistently.

Not really, warm sunshine is warm sunshine. If you being able to comfortably swim in Lake Sammamish for 18 hours a day is your benchmark for considering it acceptably summer like, then I would again argue that you're applying the standards of San Diego or South Florida to your 47N climate.
