It cleared out nicely here. Up to 70 degrees. Pretty nice.

Ended up being a spectacular 4th and it's absolutely gorgeous this evening.    Nice to have model trends work in our favor for once.

Pretty interesting stat here.  The largest daily minus departures for each month at SEA from Dec to present.

Dec ... -20

Jan ... -14

Feb ... -14

Mar ... -8

Apr ... -13

Jun ... -8

Jul ... -10

Might have to go back a long time to find anything colder.

Not as cold compared to average in Portland sadly, we had

-11 in Dec, -11 in Jan, -12 in Feb, -8 in Mar, -10 in Apr, -10 in May, -8 in June.

Extreme max departures:

+12 in Dec, +8 in Jan, +11 in Feb, +10 in March, +8 in Apr, +4 in May, +16 in Jun

Still kind of annoyed that the Arctic blast didn't make it all the way south, and a bit more snow would've been nice (I had around 4 inches), but we still managed a subfreezing high and the snow starting on the night of the 25th was enough for me to count it as a white Christmas!

Beautiful day.  67F is the high.  But how patriotic does this get?  I was looking around and noticed these blotches in a tree. I zoomed in and there we have it, two regal American Eagles!  Right on Independence Day! Perfect timing boys.

I saw one this morning as well right over my house. But unfortunately it was being chased by azzhole crows 😂

80 degrees, fireworks and katydids having a conversation. It's gonna be loud the next 3 hours ;)

I'm just glad this isn't the hottest Fourth I've ever seen, since we get muggier in the summer.

KLMT had its coolest 7/4 since 2000 today, 67 for a high. They have all been 75 or higher from 2001-2021, and without precipitation. It rained there today as well, 0.04". Apparently not from t'storms. Just regular rain, which is also hard to do on any July day there.

Looking at the 500mb map... you would never guess this ended up being spectacular 4th.

Its still raining and cold up north on Vancouver Island in the same wrap around moisture band that was over Seattle yesterday.   We really lucked out today.

Side note... the temp is still rising this evening at SEA.   Up to 72 now at 7 p.m. which is the high for the day.

Unrelated and probably a very obscure fact, but does anyone know what the coldest winter with a trace or less of snow at PDX is? Thought that would be interesting to look into.

Probably 1914-15, even though PDX wasn't around yet. Pretty cold December that year.

Sprinkling in Sunriver now. Probably will only be a trace but it’s the second time I can recall precip on the Fourth. The other time was also in Sunriver.

Unfortunately could not make it to Klamath as my buddies over there just got into a new job situation and their hours at the beginning don’t give them a free Fourth unfortunately.

Living in the moment is very helpful, weather models can skew your thought process if you allow it.

Same out here. 89°F with a dewpoint of 55°F is a huge win by our standards. Excellent timing too, as the swamp gunk advects back in tomorrow.

DP's a little higher, but I'm pretty surprised at the lack of mosquitos so far how we're starting off July.

Yeah relatively few out here as well.

Though they usually don’t get real bad until late July. And of course all of August, which is the heart of bug+humidity season. It’s a real gross time of year.

But that's not to say I haven't seen them yet this year. There were around in May here, then just sort of flew off somewhere else!

So much for the Covington fireworks ban.  Not as many as before the ban, but still impressive.

68/48 today here no rainfall. Could be chilly again tomorrow morning 59 here with some clearing.

48 in July has to be quite rare there.  It only dropped to 52 here BTW.  Only reached 69 for the high in spite of lots of sunshine.

A beautiful 76F out there today. Couldn’t ask for better weather on the 4th.

Been absent lately with my sister in law in Indiana having had a seizure and they found a mass on her brain. Needless to say our family is making some long-term decisions as to how soon we will be moving to the Midwest.

Uncertain times indeed. I hope y’all are well.

I'm praying for your sister and your whole family Bryan. With the advancement of medical technology and medication I've hoping she will make a full recovery. It great you are putting family first. 🙏

There’s a thick smog still hanging around here as a result of all the fireworks being set off. People were shooting them off deep into the night.

We got down to 47 in early July 2018…but yea overall getting down into the 40s is fairly difficult in July or august here.

Eugene hit 38 degrees in early July 2018, their all time record low for July. Surprising to have happened in 2018!
