FWIW I think we can expect the GFS to trend cooler.

Note the bias again towards cutting off the trough vs the GEFS.

Very obvious it’s wrong again. Wasn’t long ago it showed this happening right now.

Not many view to the eest in this area. Inglewood-Finn standing proud at 500' tall kind of obscures any vantage point anyways.

Euro is only about 20 freaking degrees cooler for PDX for Tuesday. lmfao.

And pretty much say screw you heatwave west of the Cascades.

That’s because the GFS is back-digging the NPAC trough early in the run. Chronic bias that culminates in a spurious cutoff.

We actually didn’t too too bad in the 2013-2018 period…not as great as the last few years but we had some good ones in there especially 2016-2017 and 2017-2018.

2013-2018 was absolutely miserable up here. I thought someone had built a snow prevention dome over my area. I can't speak to 2016-17 which was the only winter in that 5 winter stretch that had above average snowfall (and which I wasn't here for), but the rest of the years were just depressing. Basically nothing more than a trace 12-13, 14-15, and 15-16 while 17-18 almost managed to break the inch barrier for the entire winter. And then 2013-14 had January 2014 which was okay (picked up just over 6" which is only slightly below normal), but I remember being pretty depressed as the heavy snow was slamming the south sound and only brought flurries up here.

Completely unforecast, too. CAM's were blank earlier this afternoon. CAPE values severely underestimated. I wonder if they underestimated the moist layer around 850mb?

Glad I wasn't the only one 😬

Even Whatcom county cashed in on overrunning events, especially during 2016-17 iirc

How much snow did your location get in 2008/09, 2009/10, 2010/2011 and 2011/2012? I didn't live here those winters but from NWS snow totals reports it seems I had 25", 3", 2", and 4.5"

Oh yeah, last winter was one of my favorite winter's I've ever experienced! Probably only behind 2008-09 and 2010-11! It's not ever winter I get 20"+ of snow and have multiple lows in the single digits!

I've yet to eclipse 20" of snow in a winter yet. Not sure about coldest low temp since the wind usually keeps temps kind of higher here but according to PRISM data my coldest low was 11 in Dec 2013. Surprisingly Jan 2017 was warmer, I apparently only dropped to 15 while Hillsboro dropped to 3 but I don't know for sure.

I’ve never seen radar echoes that strong in the state of Washington before. Seriously impressive. My good friend’s parents live on a farm in Sunnyside so hopefully it wasn’t damaged much.
