Currently raining and 62 degrees here at 1:30 in the afternoon! We've been really fortunate with well timed rain/storms with so much SW flow keeping everything green and lush while keeping the real heat just to our east. Seems like everyday this month we have been under some sort of a severe risk for storms. Pretty incredible stormy stretch and already record breaking for July according to the NWS. Looking pretty likely that we'll surpass 2008 for the most severe issued storms since 1986.

High mark for the summer is still just 87F. We might finally reach 90 on Sunday before cooling back down early next week. Just beautiful summer weather.

Screen Shot 2022-07-15 at 1.43.30 PM.png

I don't think you understand how much I envy the weather you've had. Severe risks every day? I haven't seen more than one lightning bolt since last August!

I mean... Isn't that just the surface there? Or even below the ground? Honestly it's pretty weird they have 925mb temps across the high terrain. Do they extrapolate downward via the wet adiabatic rate, or something like that?

925mb pressure level is still well above the surface there.

Haven’t mentioned this before but I just got a job with the City of Lake Oswego. It will be a parks and recreation role so for the most part it is outdoor work which I am very happy about. It actually pays pretty well for an entry level / college student job. The catch is the work day begins at 6:30, and I live in Tigard so I will probably have to be in the car by 6 every morning. Fine by me. Going to bed at 10 is underrated anyway.

I WFH and go to bed at 10pm most nights, 10:30 at the latest.  I sleep to 7am.  its glorious.  I'm also getting old

Thought the water felt really warm... up to 77 now.    Prefer it doesn't get any warmer.

925mb is around 3 or 4k up right? That's pretty on line with eastern CO/western KS.

850mb temps approaching 40°C over central Nebraska this run.

Pretty sure that would obliterate all time records.

I was in Paris Summer 2019 when it was 113 degrees there. Absolute insanity without AC.

Paris in August of 2003.  Heat wave killed hundreds of people when we were there.

No AC and no ice in the drinks.   Cold showers at hotel was only break.

Was this the dominant pattern during the dust bowl?

Probably, or at least something similar. 40C 850's means absolutely roided mixing provided by near zero soil moisture and a mammoth ridge.

Yeah the first 9 days this month we were under some sort of a severe risk then we had a couple day break before the last 3 days under a severe threat again. So 12 days so far this month. Pretty incredibly stretch, wish I could send some CAPE your way!

That massive central CONUS ridge resulting in consistent SW flow along with high soil moisture driving the PWAT, Montana has been finding itself in the airmass battle ground all month.

Back home in Springfield and it’s 85F and beautiful. Warm but not too hot. Pleasant summer weather.

Seaside had some of the best weather I’ve ever had at the Oregon Coast. Was a very emotional and fun trip. I don’t get to take very many vacations.
