78 there.

84 in beautiful North Bend.   82 in Issaquah where my kids are on Lake Sammamish.

I’ll bet the Euro will be closer than the GFS there.

So?   The ECMWF should have better resolution and is already 6 degrees too cold through 4 p.m.  for SEA.

I will say on days with very limited marine layer (like today) the GFS output for SEA works very well from North Bend and Issaquah.

SeaTac temps are inflated by asphalt.

Seattle local tv channel news stations are still either obvious or in denial of the upcoming death wave.  KOMO 4 doesn't even have an article out about it yet.  Everyone is blissfully pretending this isn't happening yet except for Q13 FOX who is hinting at some doom. KIRO 7 is living in la-la land at the moment and KING 5 is trying not to sound the alarms just yet.

It's warmer out here than SEA and the Snoqualmie Valley is surrounded by forest.

Sure but it’s probably why the ECMWF runs cool at SeaTac but less so at Boeing Field.

D*mn, should have known the models took a crappy turn when I saw 5 unread pages of posts. Hopefully we just have a few days in the 90s and nothing approaching June 2021.

One thing surprising to me are the forecasted temperature spreads between Puget Sound and PDX. Some guidance showing a 15-20 degree difference on some days. I shouldn’t underestimate the WV’s ability to torch these days. I remember one day last week we had a pleasant day in the low 80s at home while Andrew said SLE got to 100, and I was like WTF?!

I remember wanting to go play in the fountain on a hot day while on vacation, probably in Portland.

My parents said no because too many people pee in the fountains.

This is really true. It seems to think the entire area North of Tacoma is right on the immediate coastline and that Puget Sound is significantly wider than it is. No chance it’s 104 in Tacoma and 84 in Everett.

Alaska, particularly western AK, is experiencing its genuinely coldest stretch of summer weather in a long time. I really, really wish I were there

They are just a warmer climate…some of that because there’s a little more marine influence up here and more continental there. Also they’re closer to the Four corners high that sets up in the desert SW during the summer.

104 in Tacoma would be an all time record had it not been for last year. It’s just unprecedented how hot the 106 was here and 108 in Seattle. Also to have back to back years hit 100 in the Seattle area is just crazy that’s never happened.

I can still remember when Seatac hit 100 degrees for the first time ever in 1994. I was in my unairconditioned truck on my way home from work and heard on the radio that we had reached 100 degrees. So awesome!  I was super excited because I like weather extremes. It’s losing its novelty now, but there’s still a part of me that wants it to happen again next week. If it’s gonna be hot anyway…

I was out of town for the 103 in 2009. Talking to my wife from my air conditioned hotel room, getting the weather report from our unairconditioned home. She rarely uses the F word, saves it for special occasions. I heard it a few times that day.

I remember it as well. I was 10 at the time so not super great but I do remember staying at my grandparents house in Lakewood with AC. Not sure how hot it was there.

We lived in Maple Valley at the time so if it was 103 at Seatac I’m guessing it was hotter at our house. I didn’t mention that to her though.

Definitely true… I was just surprised at the magnitude of the difference. Seems like the difference has been more pronounced in recent years but not sure since I didn’t pay as much attention to PDX temps back in the day lol

I am glad we have the Sound here during these heat waves though. Even though I live farther away from it than you it still has a cooling influence on the whole area.

Now days the sidewalks are made of human waste in Portland I'm afraid... So your parents were ahead of the curb!
