This!!!  The hyperbole on here has gotten out of control.  I think most would agree that it is currently impossible to predict long range forecasts with any reasonable degree of accuracy.  There are simply too many variables and moving pieces.  So while it might be exciting to see certain signals of what MIGHT happen during any particular season months in advance, I don;t think it's worth adding in the all hype and exaggeration when the actual likelihood of it verifying is pretty low.

Chicago has less snow than I think everyone on this forum now? Love that for us

LNK is probably dead last of people on this sub forum. Sitting at an earth shattering 4.2"... Even ORD is at 8.8"

Shades of 15-16...

Interesting. Currently almost the exact snowfall total I had during that Dec. Jan was an improvement but still only 64% of avg. Feb and March both exceed their avg's tho the Nino meant it was quite warm on both sides of the snow events compared to normal. I think I lucked out here that winter as a super-nino normally is a lock for warm/dry/snowlessness.

Actually the research I did in advance of that 15-16 Nino suggested that strong/super Ninos don't have the dry signal that weaker events do in our region. More of a mixed result if not a wet signal. The temps are often an issue though.

Like you, I sort of feel fortunate with what I got that winter because you knew that it was going to be a fight going in. Had 3 decent storms... Nov 21, Dec 28 (a lot of sleet but better than nothing), and February 24 was the best one with about 10".

LOL, I wasn't even including the Nov 21 big dog (12.5" mby) since stronger Nino's can often be snowy up until Christmas. Where the stronger Nino's fail is late Dec thru late March. See 97-98, 86-87, 81-82 as prime examples. I wrote "dry" but that just meant storms tracking north (rain) or south (sunshine) with little evidence left around here in between systems that you've actually gotten decent moisture.

Scored 11.6" here in downtown Marshall. With more typical DJF ratios, could easily have been the 15+ Big Dog! Still a nice storm I'd do again in a heartbeat.

Jaster, how much did you get in the 2/24/2016 storm?

It was crazy. It's probably happened before but I can't recall a gradient like this around Chicago/northwest Indiana in a synoptic snow. Southern WI/northern IL, yes.

Wow! Crazy gradient. I didn't realize how much the lake helped over your way. Kind of an odd trajectory as well. Looks like winds held at NNE for some time?

Then we have half of January, then February for anything good. By mid March the sun is so strong any decent snow is gone very quickly. It's too late for winter sports by then.

Yep, anything we get it March its pretty much wasted due to strong sun angle. Hopefully Winter returns soon once we get into January and continues.

Yeah I think December '15 was also a torch, but it was more active and much wetter. I think that's when many parts of Iowa had record amounts of rainfall.

Dec 15' was the result of the Super Nino. 5.75" of precip at my place with 4"+ occurring in 3 days which led to more water in my basement than I even seen with 10" in June in 3 days.No vegetation to suck up the water.  Month was +10F abv normal - but we did score a nice snow event between Christmas and New Years. But I don't want anything like that ever again. Probably the most unusual weather month here in 20+ years.

Ma Nature sure is a tease. I've gone from rain to snow and back three, if not four, times the last 90 minutes! Plain old rain again now turning what snow did fall into low viscosity concrete. Ughh. I guess I should just be happy seeing some surprise snow. I'm also impressed with the NAM and HRRR nailing an embedded area of moderate/heavy snow with rain on all four sides of it.

Yes I remember a heavy rain band just to my nw. with that one system. I only had 3" plus liquid for the entire month which still is very wet for December. I'm just thankful for no water problems in the basement no matter how much it rains.

Midway through fifth season here (on this forum) today on 01/01/2020 and had less than 5 inches of snow and less than 1/4 inch total of ice in that span. 7 out of 10 years the last decade at or below 4 inches of snow. Goodbye crappy 2010s.

$ņćķ stupid snowless piece of crap decade. Adding the 2010-2019 era in is going to drop my annual avg snowfall an inch. Be at about 6" annual. Used to be 8.9" back in the 2000s-2009 era.
