Its called 3 decades of declining economy and thus slumping tax base to pay for infrastructure. Back in the fat and happy days of the auto industry (20s thru 70s) nobody had to worry as there was plenty of growth to cover sloppy spending and mismanagement. Now we need to actually "budget" and governments fail at that on a daily basis.

Its crazy! You drive out in Ohio and its a different world. I.E., Yesterday I went there on business real briefly (near the border, just a tad south) and I gotta tell ya, it was like driving in paradise on those beautiful roads they have there.

There is basically nothing we can do except increase government revenue.  Don't want to get political, but the fight is and always will be how to appropriate the money.   Highways suck, but local roads are the main problem and that starts with local government.  Unfortunately that means taxes and people hate taxes.  So the roads stay bad.

Enter Toledo. The roads in Toledo are worse than anywhere up there in Michigan. Thankfully I live in the suburbs.

 Everytime I enter Toledo heading for I-80E, i have thoroughly enjoyed the roads. Not one single pothole. Maybe, its just that particular hwy that is in perfection. Not sure about other parts in Toledo, OH.

The state-maintained roads (IE the freeways and highways) are fine. It's everything else.

Yep.....Expwy is what I was implying then. Tbh, I have not driven on side roads, or even the city of Toledo, OH, so, I would not have any recollection on those streets.

A major issue again goes back to the golden decades mentioned before. SMI has so many more miles of paved secondary roads that would've just been left dirt roads in poorer states. As said, governing at all levels failed to think about the possibility that some day the #1 industry this state was built upon might fall apart. Never giving thought to how expensive it would be decades later to resurface paved roads. And yeah, I'm one of those lifers here in the Mitt that is not interested in paying for someone else's poor planning. To make matters worse, here in Calhoun Cnty there was a scandal some years back when it was discovered the Road Commissioner had been skimming off money and allowing our roads to go un-repaired. My county supposedly has the worst roads anywhere in the state thanks to that public servant criminal.

It's why local elections are so important.  Nobody seems to want to vote though.  Only national for some reason that don't hardly affect locals anyway.

I definitely noticed what appeared to be a raging +EPO at the end of last night's GFS run.  It had a lot of mild air surging into the country.  The EPO just doesn't want to go negative and stay there.  Models have teased us many times this winter, but it never seems to pan out.

Just an abysmal pattern around here. Had a teacher ask me this morning when our next chance of snow was, hoping for a snow day. I jokingly said next November. I've seen bad patterns around here before, but we are going on 7 weeks of nothing and the next 2 weeks aren't an improvement. I am resigned to the fact to wait until next year. Thanks for letting me rant. Maybe the rant will bring 1 biggy in March or April.

You're in Nebraska, so therefore you may not complain.

At this point I'm just hoping for a random big dog in March even though it would probably be gone in 3 days. You would probably stand a better chance at that out west than us in the SE part of the state. I just want to see more than 1-2" on the ground at least once before the season.

At least the tri cities have gotten a couple of decent snows even if it was forever ago. Can’t say the same for here. Even Omaha has done slightly better than Lincoln. I’m definitely in the center of the midwestern snow hole this year.

I was aware of the situation and hoping it did not escalate to this, but now, this is frustrating as hell.....I was informed by neighbors of mine there (Chios Island) Greece that camps were built almost near my home area. Wish I was there to fight the police and use some of my weapons to kick em out (refugees also who have no right to take others land or even borrow). Told them to notify me if any tents are built on my property there and if they dare to do so, they will not live to see the next day. All out war there!

https://news.yahoo.com/greek-islanders-strike-migrant-camp-row-intensifies-111314680.html

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/31/world/europe/migrants-greece-aegean-islands.html

Cant believe citizens are being shot by police, power n electricity has been cut OUT despite high percentage of elderly population...and why would they do that. Because citizens are protesting the condition of the refugee camps on those islands. We will absolutely not tolerate that!!!

Late winter is delivering a blizzard of Mt.Cedar! Allergies are pegging the chart and I feel like warmed up spit.

It's been a bad year for allergies here as we didn't get the deep cold. Could have used a little snow.

Instead we got rain and the cedars were in happyville. Thus the misery index is topped out.

Blehhhh!

UNL classes cancelled next week and then going online for the rest of the semester after Spring Break due to coronavirus, as all the other Big 10 universities. This thing got out of hand pretty quickly.

Everything is being canceled.  All sports are pretty much done.  It's going to be a rough couple of months (hopefully only a couple).  Let's hope the warming weather eventually helps.
