At one point it was like giant snowballs falling there were so many flakes stuck together. Never seen anything else like it and I never imagined it was gonna be that much. The models kept showing the pepto totals here and then it happened.

What was your max depth with the storm? Maybe it might have been more than December 2008 in some places in Portland because of the shorter time span!

In my entire lifetime I’ve only been to 9 states and 4 countries.
78/58 today not too bad.

23 states and 6 countries....UK/Scotland was definitely my favorite, with Spain a very close second.  I did not care for France, but I really didn't venture out from Paris.  I've heard rural France is the polar opposite of Paris.

Japan was really cool, I could see living there short term (a year or so).

Most of the states I racked up driving cross-country when I moved, an a road trip to NYC during college.

I’ve done better at some of the places I’ve lived in the lowlands… but not by much! And there’s lowland locales that have gotten nowhere near that much (in such a short time) in the last decade or so. Bottom line is that while you have had long run w/o a subfreezing high, no, the Eugene area does not anomalously suck when it comes to scoring winter storms.* Or even storms at all — it’s been several years now since I’ve seen a good thunderstorm.

 * Well, by we(s)tside lowland standards, of course. The lowlands west of the Cascades pretty much all suck when it comes to winter snowfall. Just not a snowy climate. (Or, for that matter, a thundery one either.)

I was so confused for like 10 seconds because I thought that map was forecasting for September this year and seeing all that snow on radar... until I read the top left 😂

I love the shirt btw!

Got married at your house? We did too. A lot better than paying a zillion bucks for a venue. Given the amount of booze my wife wanted to have on hand I shelled out for a $2million event insurance policy and made sure our server was OLCC licensed. @umadbro ended up sleeping in the bounce house.

Yep! Though it helped a lot that our friends next door ran a wedding facility on their 18 acre property right to the left of that picture so we used their venue for free for the pre and post festivities, but the actual ceremony was in our lower field! It worked out perfectly!

Decent chance we get through this entire month with no tropical storms in the Atlantic. Has only happened a few other times.

It’s the one thing that raises my optimism somewhat for this coming winter, as quiet Atlantic seasons tend to be followed by colder winters out this way. At least during the satellite era.

Of course there’s a good chance it doesn’t end up quiet in the end. We’ll see.

Is there a pattern that can make both the Mid-Atlantic and the PNW snowy and cold in a winter? Maybe if the pattern changes throughout the winter like 2009-10 where we had the arctic blast and cold December while your area had the super snowy February?

Yeah, -PNA/-NAO. Used to happen all the time in the 1950s/1960s but pretty rare nowadays.

You guys are more dependent on arctic air while we often struggle with moisture and storm track even if it’s cold enough.

I like the idea of having a hurricane season where storms are named after presidents.

Preferably during an election year.

We could potentially break or tied the 88 today at SEA. Gonna be a close one.

My guess is we'll be 1 degree shy.

87 at the 5pm update. But we’re gonna have to see, the inter-hour saw 88. Would be a tied, but I think the 87 holds.
