I did one when I was in grade school. I think my mom still has it somewhere.

I did the same... the Minnesota Weatherguide calendar that I got for Christmas each year from my parents had space dedicated to take daily notes.    Looks like I kept it up through about age 11 or 12.    Interestingly... my wife who seemingly has no interest in tracking weather also had a daily journal when she was a kid and we were looking through it last year and it was full of weather related notes in addition to the usual stuff about her friends and crushes on boys.   😃

Dang SEA cools as fast as lightning. From 89 to 72 in a few hours is legit.

Meanwhile DCA high was 90 and it’s still plateaued at 80 as of midnight. 🤮

This is quite a plummet as the models projected after sunset. SEA is down to 66. And this chart showed a sharp downward.

I had stuff about crushes on boys in mine too!

I remember doing maps and such after I learned about isobars and such. I tried selling subscriptions for my maps but it didn’t go well.

I missed out on that experience so I guess I’m making up for it now. Who knows what you can learn from those little details otherwise overlooked and forgotten.

Pretty good looking GFS run tonight.  I'm sure I'll get attacked for saying that, but whatever.

I did the same! It was probably in the 5th or 6th grade up until HS. I only kept snow totals. Unfortunately the journal is long lost 😞

Just snow totals?  Must have been a lot of blank days then.

I never really had a journal, I was too afraid I would write something embarrassing and my parents would find it. So instead I wrote a lot of short stories, which were about me, or my daydreams, but I could claim they were completely fictional if they were ever read by someone else. Thankful they were not and likely destroyed years ago.

Snowfall                                  Precip

SEA is falling like a rock.  64 now.  The cooling has been much slower here with the temp still in the low 70s.

August 1967 is going to stand as the warmest on record in Seattle.  As of yesterday they were still running 1F below that month.  It would be pretty much impossible to beat it now with the next few cool days coming up.  That month must have seemed horrible back then when summers were so much cooler overall.

I bet lots of people loved it... a true summery month in era of chilly summers.

I kept weather records for most of my junior high and high school years. One afternoon (after school) observation per day: cloud cover, wind speed and direction, temperature, relative humidity, rain and snowfall, maximum temperature, minimum temperature, precipitation types in the past 24 hours, precip type at time of observation.

Then at the end of each month I would use a sheet of graph paper to graphically summarize temperature and precip for the month.

00z GFS = RIP Houston.

It does look like Atlantic / Gulf tropical storm activity may pick up, but the experts are fudging now.  This is the best article I've seen on why the Atlantic has been so slow this year.  Slowest start since 1988 now!

This month has just been consistently warm. No real extreme heat just a lack of cool or normal days (only 4 total). Just lots of above average.

Yeah....1967 was similar but had a couple of super hot days to top it off.

I’ve had the same weather data book since I was a kid…it’s kinda old so i have a newer second one. Really should input in on a computer sometime but I really love having the book! Have everything in the book January 2005-present.

I have a really cool chart that I designed on excel about 25 years ago that I use for my records.  I used to hand write them before that.

The models have been all over the place the last couple days with this little trough/ULL coming in now.    From nothing at all... to going way south through southern OR... and then right over Seattle.   Looks like in the end its actually going to be weaker and farther north... skimming along the border.
