I found Jesse hilarious for a while this morning: posting, posting, posting, then posting a wish to be ignored. Tried to point out the inconsistency in that and got nowhere.

Concluded it probably indicates mental issues of some sort. Unfortunately, he’s probably quite unhappy as a result.

I think that this is an outlet for him to vent his frustration and wish for people to be on the same wavelength as him.

Unfortunately, the internet really gives zero care about that. We all can do better in that regard though.

That’s why I eventually gave up. Was having zero success and realized that despite how amusing I found it all I was probably just making him unhappier. Maybe if I had training as a therapist I would have known what to say to make some headway, but I don’t.

Getting gas in Ellensburg... windy as hell.   As usual.   Blowing dust and hard to keep your eyes open outside because the of the dust.

Windy in Cle Elum this morning. Was 80 degrees when we left at 11 am. Back in Tacoma and it’s mostly cloudy and 73 at 4:15. Looks like maybe the clouds want to break up for a little sun but we’ll see.

WILDFIRE UPDATE

Possibly on September 1st, I may end my daily wildfire watch.  It eats up roughly a half and hour or more each day, and I feel we made it through the brunt of wildfire season pretty darn well this year so far.  I consider September the start of fall, even if that isn't true, but it's been an honor and a joy to bring these to you all daily.  We'll see if I go deeper into September, but the days of the wildfire/smoke updates are getting shorter.  We've done this almost one and a half straight months without missing a day! Thanks everyone.

NEW Known Wildfires started today! 8/26/22

Washington - 12 (12 new fires today. A handful of new fires in the North Cascade's, close to the international border.  Some of these fires are being blamed on embers from wildfires in British Columbia right on our border.  There are now 15  fires along the WA-BC border on the Washington side, all within 10 miles of Ross Lake. There are four large fires in the state.  These fires are the Irving Peak Fire near Lake Wenatchee, the Cow Canyon Creek, which continues to burn near Wenas.  The Vantage Highway Fire just continues to burn, now at over 30,000 acres and is the largest in the state.  Lastly is the Wagner Road Fire near St. John, which is now fully contained. The total number of fires remains at 66.) Total: 66

Oregon - 5 (5 new fires in the state again today.  There are three large fires in the state.  The majority of fires are in the NE corner of the state.  The total number of fires increases from 35 to 36.) Total: 36

Idaho - 3(3 new fires in the state today. Idaho really needed a day like today to recoup.  After a continued growth of fires the past two weeks, having a day with only three new fires is considered a win.   We are back to three large fires in the state. The total number of fires decreases from 79 to 77.) Total: 77

California - 25 (25 new fires in the state of California. There are five large fires in the state, one up from yesterday. There are now more fires in the southern part of the state than the northern part. The total increases slightly from 54 to 57. ) Total: 57

British Columbia - 63 (63 new blazes in the past 24hrs.  The big fires in the state has dropped from five to three. The total amount of fires drops from 266 to 241.) Total: 241

Who Has had The Most Amount of Fires (Ranked by days in which they've had the most fires, only counting days we've kept track here.)

1. British Columbia - 33 days with the most wildfires

2. Oregon - 2 days with the most wildfires.

SMOKE UPDATE

Onshore winds have pushed smoke out of Western Washington and it is now floating eastward and is effecting most of Eastern Washington.  Air quality has dropped to moderate for the majority of Eastern WA north of I-90 and into Spokane.   The Puget Sound lowlands are all in the clear.

Onshore winds have pushed hazy skies from Western Oregon and it is blowing NE.  The Rogue Valley is dealing with smoke today and will continue to deal with it for the coming days.  Expect conditions to worsen in Medford and Klamath Falls.

The Panhandle of Idaho and locations around the Bitterroot Range are dealing with smoke.  The southern portion of Long Valley is dealing with isolated wildfire smoke from a local fire. Smoke is blowing eastward towards Idaho, but much of it is aloft, especially in locations to the south.  Clean air for Boise.

Smokey conditions are effecting Prince George and the majority of the Nechako Plateau. Smoke from BC's interior has made it's way through the Fraser River gap and is allowing for some low level smokey air from Hope to as far west as Gibsons.  It is less than yesterday and should go away within the next 24hrs. The smoke is mainly at the edge of the mountains and isn't flowing south past Vancouver.

Conditions have worsened as smoke is being blown from fires in Northern CA and blowing NE into Medford and Klamath Falls. Smoke is heaviest in the mountain valleys of the Salmon Mountains, just east of Eureka.  Coastal Northern California is not effected by the smoke.  Valley locations may vary.  Smoke has been trapped in locations like Hayfork, Garberville, Junction City, Weaverville, and others.

Honestly looking like a Stan Gelbaugh-type situation for the Hawks so the 92-93 analog is a good one.

They were historically bad on offense in 1992, arguably the best winter of the decade.

I would take 1995-96 over 1992-93, but I think you guys did better with snow in 1992-93 than we did.  Not saying it wasn't a decent winter though.

1996-97 certainly had its moments too, but both of the snow events were pretty gloomy with fast melt off.

Guess the question is why though? Weather is uncontrollable. Nature is uncontrollable.

Why let something you can’t control take the joy out of anything? 🤔

Man, we are cranking it up with the loss of daylight now huh? I remembered sitting on the back porch about a week or week half ago at like 8:20 or something.

We have had amazing sunsets lately.  One of the better runs I can remember on that.

You would never be able to comprehend how pissed off I was during the 1998-2001 La Nina.  I was in a near constant state of anger for most of those winters.  Probably the most wasted La Nina in history.  For anger that Jan 1999 through 2006 stretch was the peak for me.  More recently it's more of a depression thing when things don't go right.

I know you're right about weather being uncontrollable, but it still ties some people in knots.

EUG has to average 85.4º for the remaining days of August in order to beat 2014's average high of 87.81º for 2nd all-time next to 1967's 90.39º. Probably won't quite make it.

Looking at the monthly temperature listings by year, it's really shocking how much hotter it has gotten. In this century, EUG has not had a July/August in which both months were cooler than average (2000 was the last time, and it's technically in the last century).

As I was saying last night...the fact we still haven't been able to top 1967 in spite of these endless hot summers goes to show what a freak that was.  Must have seemed like hell back then.

It is interesting to note the super La Nina at the turn of the century marked the last cool summers we had.  Up here I think 2001 was pretty cool too.  As much as the winters sucked with that Nina the summers were delightfully cool.

I would too with 32 inches of snow.  I loved the last half of Jan through early Feb in 1996 though.  Great mix of snow and clear / cold.
