1998-1999 wasn't that bad though, major arctic blast and a lot of mountain snow.

For the lowlands it sucked balls after December, and the December event had little snow in the Seattle area.  All in all 1998-99, 1999-2000, and 2000-01 were terrible.

I guess, the stretch for lowland snow was not great. I wouldn't mind 1998-99 though, but the other two were pretty terrible.

Completly overcast, breezy out of the west, and some light drizzle. A bit of a marine overperformance

And finally...

Temps in the 50s at KSEA. Even the NAM, which is usually not as warm as the GFS, is so far too overzealous with sfc heating. Has temps in the low 60s right about now.

I smell an underperformance on high temps today. 80F will be a hard number to reach.

Tomorrow will almost certainly have another stout marine layer, but better mixing ahead of a front dropping in from the NW that night will allow for an earlier burnoff.

Thursday will be chilly and nice, with a strong marine layer presence and pretty constant onshore flow.

GFS thinks it gets to 84F at KSEA today. NAM 74F. HRRR 78F. Euro close to 80F.

Giant smorgazboard of potential high temps today, all of which are reliant on their own interpretation of the marine layer. My gut calls for mid-upper 70s, but that's just me.

Based on satellite... it definitely looks like an under performance kind of day.

Only 1 day over 100 here so far, that was in June, and only 4 other days over 90 total this summer, so far....  this latest "heat wave" had the perfect balance from here to the coast to make it not so oppressive like most of you have had to deal with.  Wish we had gotten more than 1 day over 90 during this latest stretch though, but nope.  Crazy thing was on a couple of the days, it was 80 here, and 90-93 just 7 miles east in Montesano!!

Somehow we have also had an easier time in my neighborhood than elsewhere, nearby.  IMBY never over 88 this heatwave.

We are backed up to a ravine that connects with Eagle Harbor area. Its very thick with vegetation and trees.  Across the street, not so much.  Getting shade during the early afternoon into the evening has really helped.

For the record, Briggs has NO IDEA what he is talking about.  He's full of himself and has a huge ego!  There are geography channels like mine and many others that give real experiences instead of just his often fake made up opinions!  Don't believe everything he says!

Yeah, Briggs has changed ALOT.  I used to like his channel.  The animated version of him is ridiculous.  Did not know you had one.  What is the name of your channel.

Six of the top ten have been in the last two years.

Somewhat misleading since those overlap encompassing the same two longer heatwaves but still.

Similar story down here. Mostly cloudy and 64 right now. Wasn’t expecting the marine layer to make such a decent inroad this morning. I think one reason for the cooler than expected weather early this week is that the ULL ending up dropping so far to the south offshore that it got out of the way enough to allow the northern jet and westerly flow to actually reach our latitude, as opposed to Oregon mostly being affected by “wrap around heat” rotated up from the southeast around the offshore low.

Excellent, both of you have the sort of weather you want!

Sounds like Randy doesn't want his winter-like weather!   And we aren't even in North Bend.   Although it sunny and 79 here in MN heading for upper 80s.

Up to 70 in North Bend now... dewpoint is still 60 so it probably feels fairly warm.

I perceived more than a little sarcasm in his use of “tragedy,” and if a January day had dawned with light drizzle and 58°F, it would have been quite in order to proclaim it much like a summer day for conditions to start out so mild.

Nah, Mossman’s expectations for his little microclimate up there are almost entirely unreasonable during the warm season. Don’t overestimate him.

So he was seriously bemoaning what .01" of drizzle did to his lovely 4-year-old, sun-bleached and food-stained, deck furniture?

Definitely bemoaning the drizzle. It has to be 85 and sunny there all summer so the rest of the region can be 110 and on fire.

I wanted a full out all day moderate rain event. Not a little drizzle but I’m fine with that as well. We could use it.
