I see what you're saying.  The lines between the seasons can get blurred at higher elevations for sure.

In 12 of years of living in the Sierra I have seen snow in town in Mid Sept and as late as mid June. 2016-2017 winter we had snow 10 out of 12 months!

Already severe t'storm warnings in eastern Washington. Stormy August.

Still no hail reports larger than golfball size on Pendleton or Spokane NWS pages. Based on pictures I've seen of vehicle/house damage in the Wallowa area, hail that small can't possibly smash windows, and make your car look like its beaten by a baseball bat.

Some of those pics from yesterday were certainly larger than golf ball sized.

As snowy and robust as that season was nearly everywhere, I believe my latest was middle of April.

Shockingly very little November snow; but in return a bunch of Fall time rain occurred before that winter said hello. October was wet!

There's a 6500 foot mountain right next to where I go mining and in the years I've been doing that the only month there hasn't been snow up there is August.

I expect some reports to show 2.5" - 2.75" out of yesterday's storms. At least once every couple years a 2" hail happens somewhere in Oregon and doesn't do that kind of damage.

All I can say about the Atlantic is WTF?  Not even anything close to being anything of interest.

There is definitely something driving the patterns that is overruling the MJO.

Maybe a little bit... but the GFS is not exactly troughy in that time frame.   Second image was 00Z ECMWF.

There was another storm earlier this year with 2"+ hail in Eastern Oregon too I think.

Interesting that Swauk Creek is the only place in Washington with gold (AFAIK). Must have been a pretty localized ancient fracture area to produce hardrock gold deposits just there.

I do want to try prospecting for gold next time I’m in southern Oregon. I know it’s often a lot of work for a few flakes of gold… but I’m a treasure hunter and the thrill of the hunt makes it fun.

There is some in the Skykomish River Basin and also in the Okanagan, but the Swauk is the most famous.

Interestingly WA ranks number 8 out of the states in gold production.

There was a 2.10" report in Woodland, ID on 6/5. Other than that, I just see 1.75" occasionally in Oregon or Washington this year.

The orientation of the 4CH has been radically different for the west/southwest this year versus last year. Surprised it hasn't made as big of a difference for the Appalachia region. Last year no monsoon for the southwest versus the strongest in 10 years or more this year.

Might be centered even farther north this year? Last year’s late June insanity notwithstanding, I’d argue it has been even more prominent this summer.

But yeah out this way the low frequency pattern has been almost a carbon copy of 2021. Pretty freaky.

Down in southern OR I think it was just far enough north to give Southern OR up to around Salem a very warm July, a decently warm July in Portland and cooler towards the Puget Sound. Salem saw their hottest month on record in July 2021.

I do vodka in carbonated drinks. The rum and bourbon is a little overpowering.

First time being able to get online since into the ATL Tuesday night.  Looks like the storms were not too impressive in Bellingham, but sounds like other parts of Puget Sound had some fun (I haven't ha a chance to go throgh the posts.

As for the last part of my journey, we flew through some incredible cloud formations as we worked our way in to the airport.  After we landed, I could see there was a finger of intense rain extending up towards the airport on radar, that I got a picture of as we were taxiing.

Right as they were opening the door and driving the baggage loading belt up to the plane, there was a huge flash of lightning, and the skies opened up.  The ground crew scrambled for cover, and we ended up waiting over 2 hours to finally get our bags.  It was raining so hard I could barely make out the shape of an airplane that had been pushed back and was sitting in the alley waiting to taxi

I was in the zone with a mix of snow, sleet and ZR most of the time. Only ended up with 4.5" of snow but the strong wind and 3 days below freezing were very fun! Sadly the Valley had a major ice storm though.

Feb 2021 was an awesome nugget of a snow event here. Feb 2019 may have been a juggernaut in total, but Feb 2021 still holds the record for largest individual snowstorm at my place. Kind of got insane at times, and we were even in the east wind shaft zone a bit.

We had 13.5” of snow in about 18 hours here…with another 1.5” on 2/14. We were just far enough west that we didn’t lose any snow from the east winds. Only thing that woulda made it better was if we had maintained some cold air for a few days following the snowstorm. Was mostly gone by 2/16. We also had 0.5” of snow On 2/12.

Snow totals weren't that much in my area but the wind was really strong, gusts over 40mph according to some old WRF-GFS runs at least. Had a few inches at least from the first wave which was all snow thankfully but the big dumping of precip was mostly a mix. I think the most impressive part of the storm were the ice accumulations around Oregon City and West Linn areas, some areas saw nearly 2" of ice. Hoping I can avoid sleet/ice in the next storms though.

Even though Jan 2017 was extremely windy from the east, we still got 12-13" of snow. There were large drifts even in undercover parts of my backyard. I guess my area got lucky with the bands of precip that happened that night.

20-21 was a weak winter for Klamath. My top snows each month below.

12/11 - 3.3" (Dec: 4.4")
1/8 - 2.9" (Jan: 3.5")
2/18 - 3.3" (Feb: 7.1")
3/15 - 2.0" (Mar: 3.3")

At least it snowed more frequently than 13-14 though. So it wasn't a demonically dry one.
