That must've been a crazy storm to experience. 50 million dollars in damages, wow.

A month before that storm, another supercell hit Klamath Falls, with a tornado and 1.5" hail. I looked up that day, it was 86 degrees when the storm happened, so that tornado was not cold-cored (had to be mesocyclone based).

I hear that was a mild summer, but produced pretty great t'storms.

I've never seen hail larger than pea size I'm pretty sure, 1.5" would've been interesting to experience

Also, the winter of 1970-71 brought 71.9" of snow to the Portland Elk-Point station at around 950ft elevation! Hillsboro recorded 14", Portland recorded 10" and Salem recorded 21.5" of snow. The stretch from 1967-1973 was a great stretch for snow (excepting 1969-70) it seems!

It was hard to get anything up to 1" there. Before 8/5/2020, my largest was 2/3" to nickel in 2016.

Even most of the stones in the 2020 storm were around penny. With a few larger ones bouncing higher. I'll never have video of that up unfortunately.

For transparency purposes...

In response to the conflict that occurred this past weekend between Tim and Andrew, the admin team has enacted the following:

- Tim has been placed on mod-preview for one week starting today

As I stated before, if you have any issues with another member do not punish the entire forum by forcing all of us to witness your slinging for pages and pages. Either take it to PM directly or reach out to a mod/admin to have us address it.

Unnecessary personal attacks will never been tolerated on this forum. That's a line in the sand that Fred drew a long time ago and we will continue to honor it.

Just checkin' up on the forum and reading what I've missed. This reminds me of when I would get postblocked on Facebook for 30 days because of memes. 😂

Weather app looking all 80+ degrees past Saturday. Gotta stock up on more ice cream and iced coffee then.

In other news, trying to convince the family to shift our Philippines vacation from January to July, avoiding dry season for wet season. Why? I want real thunderstorms again, I've missed it and it's insane in the tropics. Also that dry season absolutely sucks, oppressively high heat index with full sun and high humidity there for weeks.

I bet Earl wasn’t quite as excited about a thunderstorm as we were a few days ago. Been a rough few days for a couple of ex Seahawks.

Yup.  December 1974 had a good one in Seattle too, so in actuality 1964-65 through 1974-75 was quite good up here.

I love when they play the Rangers.

So do most teams in MLB. The Rangers are my favorite team and they’re probly one of the most moribund poverty franchises in all of North American pro sports. So many dubious distinctions.

The Mariners have a sad history. But the Rangers history is so heartbreaking. They were a franchise born out of sadness as the Washington Senators when the original Senators moved to the Twin Cities and became the Twins. Then they left DC after 11 seasons and the fans tore the stadium apart. They moved to DFW and have largely been lousy for most of their existence since, failing disastrously in the World Series in back to back seasons. The only 2 years in a row the NL won the all star game and this got home field advantage despite the Rangers having a better record.

It took them 36 seasons to make the playoffs for the very first time, longer than any other team in any North American pro sport. And 50 years to get out of the first round and win in the playoffs. Then failure in the WS and back to being shitt now probly for another half century.

It's really lucky for me that the only two winters that the COOP station very near me were 1967-68 (11.6") and 1968-69 (39"), looks like the December 1968 storm brought sustained winds over 30mph for over 3 hours and drifts up to 2 ft according to the remarks. SeaTac seems to have done much better with 67.5" but Seattle City had around 36.2" in the winter of 1968-69 because of the elevation difference so I'm not sure how good that winter was in general around the Sound maybe away from the water. I think SW OR saw some pretty crazy snowfall totals though.

Late December through January in the winter of 68-69 was a remarkably stretch of winter weather in the PNW.  Probably something our current climate state is incapable of at this time.

HI EL NINO

Actually late summer is a time when it's fairly typical for La Nina to bring heat to the NW.  Not usually the case with multi year Ninas though.  This summer is something of an enigma for sure.

Got down to 61 this morning. Definitely noticing the days getting shorter quickly we lose about another hour of daylight by September 1st.

Yeah....we are late enough now that heat is usually much more tolerable with the much longer nights and weaker sun.  I'm not happy about this summer being so hot, but it's in the final stretch now.  The 4CH has just been a beast this century.

Summers have been warm for about ten years now. Not really an enigma. Just global warming. The 4CH has grown to the point where it overpowers other 500mb features.

There has to be more to it than global warming.  Many other places on the planet have seen no such warming during the summer and some places have actually had cooler summers as of late.  It has a lot to with placement of the typical summer 500mb features.  As I've noted many times the recent winters have actually been better than when we hit rock bottom in the 1999 through 2006 period.  At least up here we have MUCH more in the way of cold during the winter than that stretch.

You can paint it however you want but we are also in an unprecedented drought for top tier, regional arctic airmasses. Warmer summers and milder winters go hand in hand in a gradually warming climate.
