Yeah, I don’t think we see another Michael Jordan in our lifetime. Kobe and LeBron were poor man’s versions.

Those Bulls teams would beat the early 2000s Lakers in a 7 game series.

WILDFIRE UPDATE

NEW Known Wildfires started today! 8/19/22

Washington - 6 (6 new fires today.  The lightning sparked fires yesterday mentioned around Shelton have all been put out. There are five large fires in the state, one more from yesterday. The Stayman Fire is no more, but welcome the brush fire known as the Wagner Road Fire near St. John. The total grows from 36 to 39.) Total: 39

Oregon - 2 (2 new fires in the state. Oregon's wildfire season seems to be on the decline this past week with totals dropping from over 60 fires to the total we have today. This is the least amount of fires Oregon has had since the beginning of fire season and the first time it's had double digit less flames than Washington. There are three large fires in the state. The total drops from 35 to 26.) Total: 26

Idaho - 4 (4 new fires in the state.  There are three large fires in the state. There still remains several uncontrolled burns deep in the Bitterroot Range with further potential to spread, including a large cluster just 22 miles from Fernwood. There are no fires in the SE of the state. The total number fires remains at 30.) Total: 30

California - 19 (19 new fires in the state of California. Crews are still battling the spread of new fires along the Oregon-California border in what seems like a never ending battle. We drop back to four large fires after the snuffing of the Oak Fire. The largest fire, the McKinney Fire, has burned 60,000 acres. The total drops from 69 to 57.) Total: 57

British Columbia - 22 (22 new fires in the province.  Lightning has sparked several new fires in the Cariboo region in a remote area west of 108 Mile Ranch and 100 Mile House. 3 new fires across the river from Revelstoke are also being watched. There are six large fires in the province. The total amount of fires jumps from 111 to 137.) Total: 111

Who Has had The Most Amount of Fires (Ranked by days in which they've had the most fires, only counting days we've kept track here.)

1. British Columbia - 25 days with the most wildfires

2. Oregon - 2 days with the most wildfires.

SMOKE UPDATE

After a day of smoke creeping over the Cascade Crest, winds have shifted and smoke is moving back east again for the majority of the region. Western Washington is back in the clear with clean air and no smoke.  Virtually all locations east of the Cascade's will see moderate air as the smoke continues to blow eastward.

Air quality remains moderate in the Lower Mainland, especially east up the Fraser. Locations near fires are seeing moderate to unhealthy conditions especially in deep valleys.  As California wildfire smoke blows east, expect conditions to deteriorate across Eastern Oregon.

Boise is smoke free today, but locations from Lewiston northward are under a layer of smoke from British Columbia and California.

Western Oregon is back in the clear with the exception of Medford and the Rogue Valley dealing with California wildfire smoke.

California has cleared up and the Inland Empire is back in the green. Only Northern Calfironia's interior and near wildfires are suffering from dangerous to moderate air conditions.  All coastal locations are clear. The majority of the smoke is blowing straight into Medford and getting trapped.  Redding is seeing poor conditions, but with the shift of winds, it should clear up.

Showed my six year old the climate probabilities map for Sept. Tried explaining what the color shades meant and I thought he was getting it but then he got bored and asked for a graham cracker lol.

Equal chances is certainly better than red or brown for temp/precip. Western WA is partially in the green in the latest Sept probability factor.

Even though the arctic air didn't get all the way here in December we still managed a subfreezing high surprisingly. Hoping for some in the south Valley next winter though

Wasn’t a “hot” summer by any means.

DC will probably end up with 40-45 days at/above 90°F, which is exactly average in the 1991-2020 climatology. All of JJA should finish right near the 30yr average, as well.

If we're counting from June 1 - Aug 19, only 22 days here were over 90. I did have a few low 90's in mid and late May. Might end up with around 32 or so for the year. The warmest average high occurred in early Summer.

I don't know what the typical number is for >90 over here but I have learned that Ashland is one of the cooler cities in Kentucky. So I think we see quite a few less than Louisville.
