1/15 - 1/16 Winter Storm

No, it's not looking good for Iowa again.  The cold air will be lifting out before the system arrives, which seems to be a trend this winter.  By the time the system revs up and pulls in cold air and moisture, it'll likely be well to our east.

Beginning to wonder if a similar scenario to this weekend might happen, but just a bit east. Wouldn't bet on a big storm, unless that clipper low gets well out of the way.

I know it looks great with the surface low pressure position at all, but it's positively tilted - I'm guessing based on the pressure orientation.

Low heads almost due east across MO after lifting out of KS.

Pretty close to the same position as the EURO.

Low doesn't really cut through the Great Lakes though, so I wouldn't call it a cutter exactly - more like a wandering semi cut off low.

An occluding/cut off low at its finest.

Nice hit for the Great Lakes. We really need a spread the wealth bomb at some point though.

One issue is that the jet stream is still streaming off the Pacific fast. Once we get closer to February it should start to subside.
