79 degrees in Newport at 11pm.

Newport still only down to 77 as of 2am, same as PDX. Tillamook and Florence still at 79. Meanwhile, Kelso is down to 55 and Olympia down to 51 due to calm winds. Very dry air out on the Coast with the strong offshore flow.

Near surface level will increase again this morning and thickens throughout the day into sunday. Then onshore kicks in and blow the smoke back at us before headed out Sunday aft.-eve.

When the wind shifts, it’ll blow the goat rocks fire smoke over us and this is when the smoke will be heaviest.

All the models show rain next weekend now... finally consistency.   Confidence is growing!

Smoke has really cleared out here for now... and there is a light east wind.   I know the smoke is coming back again but it's nice to get a break and nice to see the entire smoke event might be ending from west to east already by tomorrow afternoon.

Dropped down to 31F at my house this morning. So officially my first freeze of the year and ending my growing season at exactly 100 days this year which is pretty close to average.

Looks like the airport got its first freeze of the year as well.

00z EPS agrees with the operational on that trough dropping in on days 9 and 10. Operational and EPS show Bozeman getting a decent amount of remnant moisture from Kay later this upcoming week. Then possibly even some snow with that deep trough on day 10 as well. Fall has arrived!

And yes Tim, we know it shows ridging on days 12-15 but it keeps getting pushed back so stop peeing in everyones cereal.

Screen Shot 2022-09-10 at 12.15.36 PM.png

The EPS and control run are in very good agreement now on that trough next weekend.

One clarification though... the 00Z EPS was actually faster with the ridging later compared to its 12Z run so its not really being pushed back.

But obviously the most important thing right now is getting a solid rain event for the region and that is feeling much more likely now that the all the models are locking in.    Next weekend should be very different than this weekend.   What happens after that is too far out for any confidence.

SEA hung onto a north wind all night and it's still going.    Odd that there is an east wind here and a north wind at SEA.  Usually the east wind punches through all the way to SEA.

That makes you the first. Side note. Is the cold icon only available on PC/laptop/tablet. I see it when I'm using my laptop but not when using mobile as I am now.

Visible satellite shows that the Seattle area is in a relatively good spot this morning in terms of smoke.   There is definitely smoke but its better than areas to the north and south.    HRRR shows that main smoke plume from the Cedar Creek fire passing through the Seattle area from south to north overnight.    You can see the smoke at the source of that fire moving more to the NE now so it should start getting better once that plume works it way through western WA.

Getting hard to see the Coast Mountains this morning, which means the air quality is starting to get pretty bad, as those mountains are pretty close. Sky still looks blue (although it's a dingy blue) so air quality is not abjectly awful yet.

Low of 11.4˚C overnight which works out to (clickity clack) 52.5˚F. (No strong outflow winds here yet, of course.)

Tried posting last night but I was in la pine and the forum said I was banned every time I tried to sign in. Would that be because culver josh was near my area and it thought it I was him? Lol. Got down to about 30 this morning in La pine. The state park here is amazing. On my way to crater lake right now.
