My son won a drawing and gets to be in the coaches suite at Husky stadium today.  All the food and drinks they want.  Just him and he could invite 7 friends.   Sparse crowd because they are playing Portland State... but still fun.

The Double Creek fire near Imnaha, Oregon.  Now at over 40,000 acres burned.

It is crazy how when I was doing the daily wildfire/smoke report, everything was super calm.  Now it's the exact opposite.

When I last did a report on August 21st, 2022.  Washington had 5 large fires, Oregon had 3.  Idaho had 3.  Now Washington has 15 large fires, Oregon has 13, and Idaho has 21...

Temperature here is attempting to hit the 90 degree mark but every time it gets close it comes back down a bit. High of the day so far is 89.6°, currently 88.5°. Dew point at 36° now, wind relatively breezy at 7 MPH. In smoke related weather, my PM2.5 sensor is currently reading the lowest it's been since the smoke started, 15µg/m³. Though I'm sure that'll change as this smoke from Oregon comes in. Bolt Creek fire is not looking good.

For those who want to watch air quality, here is a live camera in Skykomish, Washington near the new Bolt Creek fire.  Things don't look all too bad there right now surprisingly.

Fire is just north of there so the smoke is blowing away from town.

Really hope this smoke doesn't turn into an inversion that sits over us longer than anticipated. I remember that happened a few years ago when models showed it scouring out in a day or two and that turned into several weeks as the systems this time of year are still too week to really push out the inversion.

Up to 69 now, I’m gonna hit 70 but not much more.  The smoke is looking like it’s going to cap the heat in the Seattle for a warm night.  Much more palatable here.

For reason... smoke does not trap heat at night.

91 at SEA on the hour.

The record is officially broken!    2022 now takes the crown from 2015.    What else should we expect from a 3rd year Nina that was strengthening all summer with a massively negative PDO?

Just got an alert from Sky Valley Fire on my phone to evacuate immediately for the Bolt Creek Fire. Think their location data may be a bit off considering I'm up here in Skagit, but I wonder what area just got upgraded to evacuate.

How bad are the surface conditions around Portland?    Trying to gauge how bad it will be in the Seattle area tomorrow.   I looked at some ODOT cams and it does not look real hazy on the ground.   Almost looks like a day with thick high clouds.

We need rain now. That Bolt Creek Fire is outta control. Can;t see far at all here in Mukilteo now

The wind definitely shifts to SW tomorrow... that smoke plume will be pointed to the NE by afternoon.    And there will be much more marine layer moisture this upcoming week so all of that will help before any rain comes next weekend.

It's definitely better than in the morning, but still smoky. First image is right now, the others are from earlier.

It's still really crappy. Lots of low level smoke but it'll hopefully improve from here on out. I've made the decision to not go to the duck game. The fact that we suck absolutely has nothing to do with it.

It is for residents north of Highway 2, between Skykomish and Index. It is a level III mandatory evacuation. :( Something like this bad picture I made.

Temperature holding steady at 81˚F after a high of 83. Smoky and hazy, but not terribly so, about the same as it was this morning.

And right after I post that, much thicker smoke starts rolling in aloft. Sunlight is dimming and the sky is turning orangish-brown. Still not too terrible at low levels. We shall see how long that latter state of affairs lasts.
