I get it.  I'm just such a sucker for sharp -PNA troughs though.  FWIW the GFS is likely to be wrong about the quick warmup after the trough.  The ensemble means have been advertising a double punch of cold troughs.  It could warmup again, but it will probably take longer than this run advertises.

Another warm sunny day here today, with just a hint of fire smoke left in the air.  Hard to imagine September not ending up warmer than normal at this point.

This thunderstorm blew up just after sunset.

Some of the light from the horizon was reflecting off the cloud, giving off the glow as a result.

Pretty warm night.   Looks like SEA did not drop below 60.   The 70+ degree streak might end today with persistent low clouds and for sure will end this week.   But the ECMWF and EPS and control run all show ridging and a warm up next week.

Atleast the models are showing some varying degrees of modest early fall systems coming in later this week into the weekend. Not big precipitation makers on some of the runs but should put a damper on the fires and keep us cool.

We hit 48 here on 9/8. That was our coldest low since 7/4 when we also hit 48. Overnight lows have been very warm this summer could potentially have our 22nd +60 low blowing way past the record of 18 set just last year.

maybe some lows in the upper 30s next week.  we'll see, bring it.  then it will probably get hot/warm again to go into October.  fire/smoke season far from done on this side.  probably will go until it snows this year

Still very slowly improving out west.  Most foothills locations and the Lower Mainland are still moderate.  Eastern half of the states are in really bad, smokey condition.

The smoke that has been swirling off the coast is predicted by models to actually spin into central and southern California in the coming days.  It starts to make landfall on September 14th.  I would assume most of this is aloft at this point.
