Massive Ballard fireworks show is shaking the whole north end of the city. Big booming here more than 5 miles away. Reports from Bainbridge Island!

Still looks dry for the next 10 days... but the EPS is definitely backing off on the strength of the ridging and the warmth.

Things are looking pretty good.  The big ridge that had been shown after this trough has really been watered down and week two looks like some real rain potential.

Meanwhile...the cooler nights are awesome!

We just had a nice trough dig in over the past few days.  Summer is done.

The 12z GFS even has a modest wind event around day 10.  Decent rains and a good cold shot as well.  As Justin has pointed out getting the BIG change in September is quite important in determining the prospects for winter.

It can be ridgy in the fall.   And in the winter.   And it can be troughy in the summer.

Ridges and troughs don't define seasons.

Stopped by the lake house earlier this morning (8:30am) to clean the ash off the boat, already had a brisk NW wind blowing which was a little unusual for being that early in the morning. Usually it doesn’t start getting breezy until 10 or 11am.

Pretty decent offshore flow setup on the BC coast last night.  Places like Abbotsford and Agassiz were breezy and in the 60s all night.

But cold troughs sure do make it feel like it. Brrrr yesterday over here. I actually had to turn on the heat for a little while.

Count me in as a fan of the 18z GFS and ensembles. Normal is good.

Weird that the 1981-2010 mean 850mb temp actually rises slightly between 9/16 and 10/1, while Eugene's average temperature goes down 3ºF over that period.

ens_image.php?geoid=135643&var=201&run=18&date=2022-09-17&model=gfs&member=ENS&bw=

A longer period for determining normal would get rid of that.

Got down to 54 this morning after a 65/50 day yesterday. Really starting to notice how short the days are now…have lost 3 1/2 hours of light since 3 months ago.

I ended up with 67/47 yesterday.  Definitely crisp at night now.  I like the looks of tonight for some decent mins.

I mean from a 500mb perspective.  The nights will be pretty cool too.

Really desirable surface pressure gradient right now.  NW is great for seasonable days and cool nights.
