I have some terrible news to share.

My fiancees son was in a terrible motorcycle accident last week and had been on life support, we lost him today.

I feel terrible and I'm sick to my stomach watch my best friend and love go through this, a parent shouldn't have to ever go through this it shouldn't be allowed to happen in nature. He was only 24 years old and his name was Adam. You people on here have always been good friends and offer good support so I figured I should share this on here. If anyone has ever been through this, loosing a child please pm me as I have no idea how to support her or what to do I know when I lost my wife I wanted to be left alone. She's going through the worst thing that can to a Person.  This hurts.

So sorry man, I don’t know that anything I can say would help, but y’all are in my thoughts.

This is as early as I can ever recall autumn beginning. Still can’t believe it’s happening.

Usually we have to wait until mid/late October for that first big push of cool/dry air. Instead it’s coming tomorrow.

October hurricanes can be fun with the crazy phasing turns they sometimes take on once they reach the mid latitudes and become extratropical and interact with the jet stream. Obviously not a likely scenario there but there certainly are some examples of crazy stuff like that happening during the month (Typhoon Frida in 1962, Hazel in 1954, Sandy in 2012, the big UK storm in 1987, the Perfect Storm in 1991).

That’s not how it works. Summer temperatures are generally more consistent. When we went over the PRISM data which goes back to 1895, April and May were more anomalously cold and wet down here. Maybe summer was not quite as hot up there by historical standards, but I think it was close. And whatever SeaTac ranked is kind of irrelevant when we have a much more comprehensive dataset at our disposal.

So you're saying the anomalous cold in April and May are irrelevant?  In actuality SEA was below normal every month for Dec - May.  If fall is cold the warm summer here will be just a blip.

We'll see where the annual average ends up.  That's what it's all about.  I've already acknowledged the summers have gotten absurdly warm on a consistent basis.  The other seasons still get below normal somewhat often.

D**n. I just realized that 🤣. Also what's crazy it's all sources point towards a wet winter here we'll see with the way pattern has been. Temps and Snowfall outlook is more all over the place.

The Cedar Lake station is at 1.55 inches of rain for July - September currently.   The 00Z ECMWF showed about .10 total through the end of the month out here.

The driest July - September period ever that station was 3.32 inches in 1998.   Unless something drastically changes for next week... the record will be absolutely crushed.    That station had rain almost every day from late March through the middle of June which was also something that had never happened before.    The offset to that has been even more extreme in the other direction.

The dryness might not seem like a big departure for places that don't normally get rain from July - September... but the incredible persistence of the dry weather is much more telling in the foothill areas up here where the overall pattern has been unlike anything that has ever happened in the July - September period.

Big question now is whether this extreme dryness will be followed by another period of extreme wet... or does dry weather overall continue on through the winter.   Obviously "dry" from October - March is a relative term since it will still be way wetter than the last 3 months.   But it will be interesting to see if we go the route of something like 1976-77, 1984-85, and 2000-01 or revert back to a very wet pattern like we did in 2012 and 2017 after an unusually dry July - September.

Last year... the Cedar Lake station had over 50 inches of rain from October - December which was top tier wet for that period.

There are some trees just east of Barkley Village that are the last trees to leaf out each spring and the first to lose their leaves in fall.   Not sure what they are but I have not seen them anywhere else.  I was noticing those trees losing their leaves fast on Saturday when we were up there.   Some years they don't leaf out until the middle or end of May and are bare by the end of September.     They also have some incredible flowering trees along that stretch that make for a tunnel of red each April into early May.
