There are some trees just east of Barkley Village that are the last trees to leaf out each spring and the first to lose their leaves in fall.   Not sure what they are but I have not seen them anywhere else.  I was noticing those trees losing their leaves fast on Saturday when we were up there.   Some years they don't leaf out until the middle or end of May and are bare by the end of September.     They also have some incredible flowering trees along that stretch that make for a tunnel of red each April into early May.

The Cedar Lake station is at 1.55 inches of rain for July - September currently.   The 00Z ECMWF showed about .10 total through the end of the month out here.

The driest July - September period ever that station was 3.32 inches in 1998.   Unless something drastically changes for next week... the record will be absolutely crushed.    That station had rain almost every day from late March through the middle of June which was also something that had never happened before.    The offset to that has been even more extreme in the other direction.

The dryness might not seem like a big departure for places that don't normally get rain from July - September... but the incredible persistence of the dry weather is much more telling in the foothill areas up here where the overall pattern has been unlike anything that has ever happened in the July - September period.

Regionally, I don't think there's a July - September period on record that's been drier.

1967 and 2012 were probably closest, but 2012 had decent July rain in more places and 1967 eventually had widespread rains in September.

I have some terrible news to share.

My fiancees son was in a terrible motorcycle accident last week and had been on life support, we lost him today.

I feel terrible and I'm sick to my stomach watch my best friend and love go through this, a parent shouldn't have to ever go through this it shouldn't be allowed to happen in nature. He was only 24 years old and his name was Adam. You people on here have always been good friends and offer good support so I figured I should share this on here. If anyone has ever been through this, loosing a child please pm me as I have no idea how to support her or what to do I know when I lost my wife I wanted to be left alone. She's going through the worst thing that can to a Person.  This hurts.

Bad enough to lose a parent, but at least you expect to outlive your parents. Really can’t imagine how it would be to experience the scope of such a loss. My condolences.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Yeah I don’t really like it, but my wife always jokes there may be more I don’t know of. I’m 99.9% that is not true... I am also 38 now, starting to get too old for newborns, the little fella may be the last one... We will see.

It’s ridiculously dry out there. It’s weird being in late September with no rainfall on the horizon for atleast another week and the grounds bone dry. Nearing 100 days with just 0.61” of rain. Big contrast from the last few years when meaningful rains started showing up in mid September and everything was starting to come back to life at this point.

I think this one’s gonna verify. This would probably extinguish the bolt Creek fire and end the smoke bouts we’ve been getting. Winds are gonna flip offshore here again soon and we will probably be getting more smoke here hopefully for the last time this year.

Currently 48F here and very rainy with 0.31" on the day so far. This storm system has been incredibly beneficial from NorCal up into Montana. Wish we could have spread the wealth into OR/WA as well!

Since we’re all on the subject, I just found out I have a second child on the way. About 9 weeks along or so. I have a beautiful 8 year old girl now and hope she loves this one.

In other news, I received .05 of precip overnight. Looks to be it for awhile unless that storm in one week comes through for us.
