Almost like what happens before a tsunami.

I saw other videos online of it also happening before Charley in 2004... which took almost the exact same track.

For those that are dying to see some eye candy at least.  This is the EPS control so take with a grain of salt.

Seems like every other control run for the last 6 weeks has gone crazy after 240 hours.   Never actually happens though.

But you referenced it by saying you weren't going to talk about it and then posted the map when someone asked you about your comment.   All part of the jinxing process.   ;)

Don't look at the 18Z GFS for your own good.    Or maybe you would like me to jinx that run.   Its the GFS opposite extreme of the control run.   Neither will happen of course.

Crazy stat: PDX has seen 100 consecutive days with a high of 70 or greater, beating the record of 96 set last year, which beat the record of 92 set in 2017. Seven of the top eight 70+ streaks have been set since 2012.

Decent chance of a sub 70 high today or tomorrow, but if not the streak could get truly absurd (if it isn't already).

t3INqFs.png

We hit 72 today. The average high today is 73. It will end up being a much above average day with the low of 57. Average is 51.

We haven’t dropped below 50 in 129 days. That streak won’t be broken anytime soon. Maybe we can get to 150 days? The average low is 49 a week from today.

I heard the pressure was so low that the hurricane literally sucked water out of the bays north of the storm.

I posted a pic here earlier of this happening in Tampa Bay.

Crazy to see what the bottom of the bay looks like. Due to the winds and strong offshore flow, St. Petersburg water levels are more than 5 feet below normal.

Only 64 at SEA today... after a low of 54.

That puts a dent in the monthly average.   Looks like this month will end up 3rd or tied for the 4th warmest September in history.

But still a lock for the warmest July - September ever.

Looks like of the 6 major I-5 stations, the ones setting a record warm September are PDX and SLE. Not surprising, as those two stations always struggle the most to cool off at night like they used to.

BLI, SEA, OLM, and EUG will not.

Not to lead conversation away, but Hurricane Ian made landfall as Category 4 (it was Category 5 off the coast).  150mph winds in places.  The eye is north of Cape Coral.  Here is the latest satellite from about ten minutes ago.  I added the precipitation layer.  Storm surge is really bad for these western coast communities as the water is roaring back in as the winds howl.

Ian still a major hurricane with 115 mph sustained winds a full 5 hours now after making landfall. This is going down in the history books.

18z is July climo in October. 70s and 80s for two weeks and continuing on into the indefinite future. At this point we're starting to fight solar insolation but keep in mind there have been 70s recorded all the way into November.

Yeah we had low 70s in early November 2010. Madness ensued a couple weeks later.
