Apparently the climate is warming. :(

We have also had a run of remarkably warm Januaries.

December has held its own and Feb is actually cooling.  Our winters aren't warming like our summers at this point.

Kinda getting the feeling we end up with the warmest October ever.

The second half could snap back big time, but it's possible.  Pretty high bar on that stat though.  At this point inversions can begin to play a role also.

Let’s recap the last 100 days or so and forecast the next 15. The heat records don’t overlap:

Hottest week ever

Hottest month ever

Hottest September ever

Hottest first half of October ever

Longest streak of 70+ highs ever (still alive)

Longest streak of 50+ lows ever (still alive)

40 consecutive days above normal

Driest astronomical summer ever

Driest first half of October ever

Is there anywhere on earth that has had more consistently anomalous weather than the PNW over the same period of time? Maybe parts of China?

Kind of interesting to note the Sept SOI will end up in the top 3 over the last 40 to 45 years, which means the atmosphere is in a total La Nina state over the tropical Pacific.

A refreshingly nice 69F out there. Not a cloud in the sky. Should make for some great star watching and a pair of binoculars will give you a view of Jupiter's moons.

I’m surprised at people panicking over winter already. If things were reversed and we were having a wet and active early fall, there would be those worried we were blowing our load too quickly.

It's going to be one helluva party on here in a few weeks.

Pretty hard to believe people are weenie tagging me for making a provably true statement.  Saying the winters aren't warming like our summers have been.  Dec has been unchanged, Feb is actually dropping, and of course we have the January curse which has caused that month to rise.  With summer it has gone up like a rocket, which is more of a local occurrence than anything.

Yeah mostly just joking. My guess is there’s not much fine dining in North Bend but you never know. We used to like the Melrose Grill in Renton when we lived in S King County, thought the steaks and experience held up well compared to what you would find in downtown Seattle.

I get it, i'm the same way. I want it to start getting cold in October and the Mountains to start getting blasted.

But honestly, today is nice. It's sunny, it's cool and it's clear. It's an awesome fall day and great day to get stuff done outside, might be our last chance before the pattern changes for good.

I just want a multiple event winter. Windstorm, flooding rains, and lets go with 3 arctic outbreak/snow events.

I was thinking today.  How often can you say you already know next weekend will be nice when it's still a week away this late in the season?  I would bet a nice crisp $50 bill on it...at least it being dry.

The beefsteak tomato and blue cheese salad. Mmmmmm. Looks like it’s still on the menu. Used to love the porterhouse as well. Looks like that’s gone but in reality that’s too much meat anyway.

For one station. If PDX is all that matters, hey ok.

DISCLAIMER: Obviously it's been very warm and very dry. Record-breaking in some respects. But the reality is that records at one station don't necessarily reflect records overall.

Slice the pie however you want… the persistent anomalous warmth and precipitation futility is unprecedented in this region.

I'm just running out of ways to say how much this pattern blows.  It's so freeking stable that nothing seems to be able to break it.  At this point I'm thinking late October for the pattern to really flip to something different.

Yep it was pretty bad. I wasn't really following the weather then but I do remember getting excited for snow in January and then being let down. I had an inch of snow total that winter between November, January and March.

If there's a silver lining to be had it's the fact January is rapidly becoming the most likely month to score this winter according to past instances that have featured persistent late summer / early to mid autumn ridging.
