Continuing to rack up the 90+ days like candy here.

Hard to believe in the 19th century there were summers with less than 5 days at/above 90° all summer. Now it’s a struggle to get less than 40.

Yikes.  It's hard to know how much of this is nothing more than coming out of the little ice age.

Holy crap!  The models show San Diego getting some actual weather from that tropical storm next week.  Very rare that happens.

Looking at the years San Diego does get rain in September, it's almost always with El Nino.  Just weird what's going on this year.

Looking a bit rough for the Ducks so far as well.

UGA is sending a nice little "welcome to the SEC" to the pac-12 team. Playing against SEC teams is kinda unfair at this point.... and all they do is beat up on each other only.

Mostly sunny on the WA coast... and cloudy inland.    Today is not a "burn off" type of day like Thursday and yesterday but rather a day with clearing from west to east after a trough passage.

Back edge passing through now it would appear.

Gives me hope that I might not blowtorch all winter. Maybe this year will be an oddball.

Continued thick cloud cover and only 67 here currently.  The visible sat pic clearly shows clearing advancing from the west though.

She was referring to the mid-week trough and the ECMWF definitely went in the direction of the GFS.

SEA up to 69 now with clearing from the west... should avoid a sub-70 day.    The last day with a sub-70 high was on 7/17 with a 69 that day.     And before that it was 7/3... so it was just one degree away from a 2-month streak at this point.

I’m sort of curious what exactly was so irrational about anything said this morning. The fires blew up yesterday when conditions were more favorable (hot/dry) and will be calmer the next few days with more onshore flow. Should stand to reason then that more heat next week as opposed to onshore flow like today would be conductive to more fire activity. Or am I missing something?

Most of the western US is semi arid or desert. It’s brown all year.

It does get green in the spring in a lot of places, and of course snow covered in the winter for many places.  It just struck me how vast the area of brownness is on that pic.
