Totally agree.   Hope Bobby has a career year and the Rams fail to make the playoffs.

Since my time of being here in the Puget Sound Region dating back Nov 2001 between Tacoma, Spanaway, Lacey and now here in Seattle the biggest I experienced so far was Hanukkah Eve storm in 2006 was living close to McChord AFB at the time wind gust there maxed 69 mph.

Rainshadow influence, my guess

Yes... with SW flow the rain shadow usually starts there (and goes north).    The reason places north of downtown get more is from the influence of the c-zone.

Anyone have any idea why there's less rain along Elliot Bay, Alki and other areas long the Puget Sound?

West Seattle, Queen Anne, and Phinney Ridge neighborhoods are all on top of hills. Those hills force lift and condensation just like the Cascades and Olympics, but on a much smaller scale. Over time those little boosts in precip add up.

Similarly, being down by the water, you are at a constant lower elevation, so no extra precip there. The DT/Industrial area of Seattle is also in the lee of the West Seattle plateau, so they're actually shadowed a bit too! Of course on this scale it's small differences in drizzle intensity.

Annual precip skyrockets as you go east of Beacon Hill and towards Bryn-Mawr Skyway as you leave the Olympic Rainshadow. It also increases gradually north of downtown as you rise a few hundred feet and enter the PSCZ's home of choice.

God that was a big one. Biggest of the century for WA. I was living in an apartment on Magnolia, on the NE side of the hill. Usually we were sheltered from big winds, but the dynamics were so powerful on that one that the winds overcame the terrain and bitchslapped my neighborhood. Windows shaking, losing power, blocked roads, everything! I had never seen trees move so much in my life.

Yeah, at most the models have been showing maybe 1/4-1/2" of rain at the very end of next week, with either a weak front washing out as it pulls through, or with some scattered showers. There has not been much ensemble support for widespread rain prior to the 20th. Seems pretty typical to me. We've been blessed by some early rains the past few Septembers, but historically it is pretty normal for this to be a dry month.

This may be the driest late June through mid September on record for some areas. Some crazy stats for OLM. 1967 is the only comparable period I can find, and I imagine that applies to many other locations.

I’m old enough to remember the Inaugural Day Storm. Sustained winds of 50 with gusts to 80. Beaufort scale description of those numbers on land is “Seldom experienced inland; trees uprooted; considerable structural damage.” which is a pretty accurate description of what happened. I counted around 30 downed trees across the road on the way home from work that evening.

Western Washington maybe. Down here it hasn't been unusual at all except for PDX. One of our wetter summers in recent memory.

2017 was just a little drier in that period out here than 2022.   This year comes in second place.     First fall rain came on 9/18 in 2017 and could be similar timing this year as well.

To followup on my previous post...

SEA also benefited from a couple bouts of weak PSCZ rain this past month, even though it wasn't much it's also not a representative of the region as well. But still fairly dry.

Depending on how long they stay dry this month, could easily end up one of the driest three month stretches on record for SLE.

Man, the 5 month stretch they saw in 2018 may never be broken, though. Just 1.12" from May-September.

I know there is a place where you can download daily records from every station on the WRCC site.    I have the daily data for Palmer, Snoqualmie Falls, and Cedar Lake in Excel and always refer to it.   Someone will have a link.

60 to 75 days with next to no rainfall isn't too unusual (especially lately). Once you starting pushing 90 days, though, you'll find very few years with basically a single rain event.

We had 0.02" here in August. VUO right across the river scored an awesome 0.01" on the 6th.

I had a drizzle on the 9th, probably was just a trace though. Maybe we had a few hundreths of an inch then or on one of the marine layer days but never that much.
