I'm watching smoke waft into the Puget Sound right now.  Sky is getting hazy, smokey, and obscuring the Cascade's.  Most of this smoke is coming from British Columbia and the fires near Lake Wenatchee. Air quality alerts for Chelan, Douglas, Okanogan, Asotin, Columbia, Garfield, Walla Walla, and Whitman Counties.  Conditions may worsen to unhealthy air quality by Saturday for a large chunk of Western Washington, all of eastern WA, if the models are correct. Friday we may see a big degradations.  We could be going into those horrible smokey days of yore.

In the eight days since I've stopped doing daily wildfire and smoke reports, I can't believe how "gone to heck" it's all gone. We have horrible conditions in California, eastern WA, southern OR, etc.

Does anyone know where TWC current temp come from cause it's not matching any airports it's on its own. Showing my current location at 69° not sure what station is using while Boeing Field 70° and SeaTac 72°. Wonder if their current temp output is reliable for data it's what I use for Belltown since I have no wx Station

TWC and weather.com uses IBM technology for their data source. I believe this also includes Wunderground. So a lot of these are automated and not real time observations like from NOAA sources. Reason for them to be slightly off. IBM claimed that it's "world's most accurate forecaster" though.. not sure I buy that.

Also, the source of TWC is most likely DT Seattle. It matches.

Appears this is where TWC and Weather.com takes its reading, around SODO. Sensor is right off of Seattle City Light.

This is why it's on its own... because this is not an official station.

A couple of interesting takeaways from today's model runs.

1. Both GFS and ECMWF have knocked it down to a one day wonder heatwave for SEA.

2. Both models show highs in the 60s not too far off.

3. Ridge axis shifts to the eastern half of the US.

Models are strongly hinting at an abnormal cool period somewhere around day 10.  Something to watch for sure.

The 12z GFS, 18z GFS, and 12z ECMWF (extrapolated) all show it.

Jesse downvoted this, so I assume that means he is rooting for more heat?

Not sure what to make of him anymore.

Models are strongly hinting at an abnormal cool period somewhere around day 10.  Something to watch for sure.

The 12z GFS, 18z GFS, and 12z ECMWF (extrapolated) all show it.

The 2012-13 analog is looking better by the day.

PNW has got the boring stuff today.

It's actually not boring.  I love sunny weather when it's not hot.  A little taste of Candian air today.
