Gotta think Oakridge will be enduring a nightmare firestorm like Detroit. This is worse than forecast. Ash is falling like crazy.

The fire is luckily still a ways away from the town but with the fire behavior right now and the continued winds there's a reason they pulled that level 3. Fire is raging on two separate fronts right now.

A lot worse in OR and sadly the Oakridge fire is still going quite strong. Intense smoke around there.

I will happily take smoke tomorrow if it lowers our insane forecasted temps and the solar radiation. I have no idea how there is a single native plant, shrub, or tree still alive in this wasteland.

Of course, smoke means fire which means destruction of natural beauty, wildlife, and possibly property or even lives.

Just sh*tty all around.

Not liking what I am hearing above.  So sorry to hear about the brown outs in parts of Oregon. :(

Conditions have 'stabilized' for much of the region with moderate to unhealthy air quality.  Some areas are worse.  Right now the smoke is swirling off in the Pacific and is looping counterclockwise.  My guess is if we have onshore winds, this counterclockwise movement will slam Oregon with all the smoke as it comes back.  Some models are showing this now, despite not really showing it earlier.

Things have deteriorated since I last posted these at 6pm. NW Washington and the Peninsula is the good area currently. From about Everett to Bellingham, closest to the water.  If you head to the foothills, it's smoky.  The South Sound currently has the worst air in Western WA.

Portland is looking pretty clear right now, but smoke will explode through the Columbia Gorge tomorrow morning and make for some horrible smoke throughout the day.

Some of the thickest plumes are currently overhead much of our region, with most of it at higher levels.

Our trees are accustomed to very wet winters and very dry summers.    You want rain every day and obviously July - September is never going to meet your requirements.   Nor will most months even in the rainy season.   Dry days are actually the majority based on long-term climo.

At this point, you must have a decent generator setup, I'd imagine. It's probably a good call to shut down the power grid but it's also probably an overreaction from 2020.

It’s a 9400 watt, so it’s decent to run the well and keep the food cold, and a few lights. Can’t cook or do laundry.

00Z GFS brings rain in well before day 10... definitely a change.

We’ll see what the Euro says but if the GEM is any indication for the Euro to follow suit, we’ll be wet for this time frame as well. GEM is also wet. Big change if there are models agreement.

The KPTV fire smoke forecast shows smoke starting to clear in the Willamette Valley tomorrow night, then looks clear Sunday morning. Still looks horrible for the areas around the Oakridge fire.
