You were in fact quite mystified as to the importance of mountain snow pack in a Western state.

No, I wasn’t.

Yikes…yeah on satellite imagery it’s just moving right into bend. There’s just a very slight haze back here at home.

Surrounded. Right now it’s noticeably better than it was this morning but it’s obviously not really going anywhere. May try heading east tomorrow to check out the painted hills and escape the smoke.

If the wind stays SW you may be able to escape the smoke going down towards La Pine or Paulina peak. Crater lake is 2 hours south and there’s no real smoke to the SW of there. All of those places are worth checking out.

Looks pretty bad by Lapine at the moment but we’ll see what tomorrow brings. Been to Crater Lake and Paulina Peak but may choose to head that direction.

Just like that it appears summer is over.  No 80 degree days shown for SEA.  I can't wait to see what kind of numbers the rest of the month puts up.

Just to be clear this is a good explanation of what the PV is, and is not saying anything unusual is going on as far as the early stages of the PV are concerned.

That having been said there are many unusual things about the global circulation going on this year.

This run has 5 consecutive days with highs in the 55 to 61 degree range for SEA later in the month.

The ECMWF looks quite cool, but not so wet.

Plenty of clearing tonight after highs only in the low 70s should allow things to get pretty cool.

I sure hope so and odds are actually pretty good we are, just because of the season.

I think it was 2012 that the rains did not start until well into November. I would really rather not have another dry fall like that. Though it did really create a pent-up desire to reproduce amongst the local fungi, with the consequence that the next fall was spectacular for mushrooms.

It's called clown range for a reason.

A massive pattern change doesn't have to mean it will get really wet.  As everyone on here knows cold is more important to me.  We always get the precip eventually.

I’m in the 90’s for AQI here. High end of moderate, just below unhealthy for sensitive groups. I can see the mountains again (or rather I could, when it was still light), but not very well. It should gradually continue to improve here.

Prevailing westerlies are my friend but not yours in this sort of situation.

Just give me a AQI for Pullman of Yellow and below for Saturday and I'll be happy. Part of living in EWA means more smoke.

Haha at this point I might have to root for it to warm up for kickoff? Ok I've jinxed it now. At least my son can wear his winter coat. September games in Pullman are hard to forecast. You could get 90 and sunny (need shade), smokey and 75 at 7pm, or 55 and breezy with showers. How do you all do it in Nov? I'm going to a Vandals game in Nov but they have a dome.
