A bit of a personal post on my end. This was a few years in the making but had to postponed several times due to the passing of my mom during Covid and obviously the continuation of Covid until we are safe to travel. And also why I made this trip back to the home country for the first time in 20 years.    This was taken at Central Highlands of Vietnam in Da Lat early morning.  The fog and mists was just like home.

A few pics from out trip.  The building structure is the highest fire lookout in North America I hiked up to, fairview peak in Colorado.  That was tough to do at 13k feet 5 days after my surgery haha.

First smoke plume of the year is almost totally blocking the sun, but it looks like it will pass quickly.

On another note...I had my first fairly dense fog of the season this morning.

Certainly looks that way.  May go down as a hot, but fairly short summer.  We should still have quite a few nice days though.

The 12z EPS actually showed temps a bit below normal for much of week two.  It also showed strong high pressure over the GOA which should drop the coastal SST's quite a bit.  Looks like the 4CH is done for the year.

My actual preference would be a 2-inch soaking all day rain across the entire region... then back to a couple weeks of summery weather.

Yeah earlier it was showing 100 for PDX on the 11th at one point as well, and I think a few other runs were showing troughing on the same day.

Hard to really trust any of the models past 5-7 days recently. The euro sure looked nice this afternoon but I expect it’ll be quite different tonight.

The GEFS and EPS have been pretty consistent on flipping to -PNA for week two.  In fact tonight's GEFS is cooler than the previous couple of runs.

      Good morning. Here in the NW Grand Rapids area I have cloudy skies and at 6AM a temperature of 69. Today looks to be partly cloudy and warm with highs in the mid 80’s tonight the low should be in the upper 60’s there is a slight chance of a shower or two today and tonight. Saturday also has a very slight chance of a shower with highs in the low 80’s and lows in the low 60’s. Sunday and Monday have a better chance of showers and maybe a rumble of thunder, The rest of the next 7 days also have some chance of showers it will be trending a little cooler with highs in the low 80’s then near 80 and by Thursday the mid 70’s Lows should be around 60 to the low 60’s. Detailed Forecast for Grand Rapids Today A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Tonight A 10 percent chance of showers after 5am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Saturday A 10 percent chance of showers before 8am. Mostly cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 81. West wind 7 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Saturday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 61.       I haven't checked in for several days but it pretty much sucks so not much to say! It's been hot and it's going to stay hot. Maybe a shower tomorrow but not enough to put a dent in the now building drought.

      August 2026 PNW Weather

      Greetings from Montana, overlooking a very smoky Flint Creek valley. Cool breeze kicked up after sunset and seems to be helping air quality, but I could still see ash in the air in the beam of my flashlight. Also a tired doggo after her first long road trip.
