Those analogs are pretty ridiculous though.  About 80% had something very good follow.  Even the Nino years.

Now if can clear up and frost tonight I will call it a huge win.

I'll try that if we get a big snow event this winter. Sometimes even that's hard though! In January 2017 I assume we had around 13" but the entire yard was just inundated with snow and drifts everywhere. It was amazing!
February 2014 was also nice, I remember near blizzard conditions on the 6th.

Yeah it can be really tough sometimes! My best advice would be frequent measurements in least exposed areas.

We get a lot of 60+ mph westerly downslope winds off the Gallatin Mountains here in the winter and of course east winds will shoot the gap from Livingston with Arctic air masses so I have my system nailed down pretty well depending on the wind direction.

Tonight we should see 35mph winds from the north as the low wraps up south of us so I'll let you know how the measurement process goes tomorrow!

The Central Puget Sound was the big winner today.  These training showers just keep coming although it does appear the end is near.

You mean East Puget Sound.    Fairly shadowed over here since the beginning of the event.  I think we are at about .4.  Not complaining too hard, but the trees need a good long drink.   Currently 45 on the island.  Fall is here for sure.

Little break in the weather this afternoon before the next surge of moisture moves in this evening that looks to change us over to all snow. Fun to see the first snow of the year in the hills surrounding though!

NWS has upped snow totals, going with 10-16" for my rooftop. About on par with what the HRRR and ECMWF are showing. 0.77" of precip and currently 38F.

With every successive weather report you post, I grow increasingly comfortable with the idea of living out in some Bozeman-like area. I'm firmly a city guy but your climate is unreal. I've also been intrigued by the climates of New England and Sapporo, as well as Iceland and the Swiss Alps.

Tomorrow should be a pretty typical day for this time of year. 58/46 or so and dry, with high clouds increasing in the afternoon.

Iceland would be amazing! We actually honeymooned in Iceland and fell completely in love. Immigration is almost impossible there though. They are very strict and I don't blame them! Bozeman was a close second and was MUCH easier to move to! The climate here has everything that we love so we're very happy and feel so fortunate to be here.

I love Bozeman ❤️.  It has a wonderful Museum of the Rockies with T Rex specimens. My son loved it. 😍.  For such a small city it has enormous charm. Even the grocery store blew me away. Like a PCC

I worry I'd get tired of ceaseless oceanic influence in Iceland, no matter how polar and dynamic it may be. Sapporo would probably be my ideal climate because its seasons are defined and it gets just about every weather extreme on earth.

YouTube has some awesome footage of the snows they get. Amazingly deep and dry like lake effect on the Tug Hill Plateau

It was a 💩. I don't know what happened. It looked good on paper.

That winter marked the great Pacific climate shift. 1975-1977 was the driest two year period ever recorded in california. A repeat of that winter on top of our current drought would probably be the costliest weather related disaster in US history.

Do you get sick of the cold come May?

That's my only complaint with Tahoe is that by May I want some nice 70F days. More often than not it is cold, windy, and snowy in Mid May. Some years we go 8 months without a 70F high.

April is really the only month that I dislike here with the snow melting and everything still completely dead and dormant. By mid May things really start to green up with plentiful rain/snow and the anticipation of Spring is on the horizon.

The cold has never really bothered me...unless it's below zero!

Man that looks dry.  I hope to tell you it can change very fast though.  It is incredibly soggy and drippy here after just one day of change.

Below zero (F) is the best kind of cold though!

If I lived in the US again, it would probably be somewhere in western MT (except not Missoula/Butte).

Too bad you didn't get more rain.  Topped out at 47 here with over an inch of rain.

Yes, that was the +PDO flip. Nobody wants that to happen. We don't need the current drought to become another weather catastrophe. I think we've had enough of those in the past couple of decades.
