Day 7 well, that's different

500h_anom.na.png

That could bring some much-needed precip to CA and possibly some snow in the Sierra if it verifies! Bring it on!! The Euro ensemble run wasn't quite in agreement with this, as it had the low further north and more inside. Hopefully the ensembles start showing the solution that the operational was showing tonight!

0.00" here.

I see we're setting up for yet another rainy season with a steep N/S precipitation gradient. Again it will be as if Washington and Oregon are in completely different climate zones.

Isn't the N/S gradient more pronounced in the fall? Maybe we can see more rain to the south in the middle of winter.

I was kind of hoping there'd be more snow up there (there was maybe 2" in the shade), but the lack of snow meant the fall foliage of the blueberries really shone through. And the bears must have been happy about it because we saw 4-5 different black bears foraging in the meadows. There's actually a bear in the first photo (not that you'd be able to see him, he's like a single pixel in size).

The latitude difference between Vancouver BC and Medford is the same as between Paris and northern Spain. Or between Belgrade and Athens. The northern and southern PNW do have quite different climates as is.

In the old days, EUG got more average yearly rainfall than SEA.

That's only because of shadowing from the Olympics.

I had 0.14" total, so I suppose you're technically correct that it was a reverse gradient.

I think southern WA was the big winner.  Big gradient from northern WA to southern.
