Geos,

Is there a model out there that shows the winds in hi-res...I saw some model on a weather channel (not the weather channel), and it was quite impressive.

I think most everything would be paid to see. Maybe someone else knows of something free.

Wunderground has some decent ones. Right column, go under model data:

January went down for the all-time snowiest month in my area (39.5"). Still adding to this total today as snow is expected to develop later on today. Unbelievable!

60% ice coverage on Lake Michigan... not quite!

Take a look at this satellite shot from yesterday. I'd say more like ~35%.

I don't have the foggiest idea where they got that number from. Some communication lines must have gotten crossed. There is nothing to suggest in that image, that ice coverage is near 60%.

Anyways, the month will go down as -9.23° normal. Coldest January in my lifetime I believe.

Hopefully only a few more subzero nights for you Geo's!  It's been a brutally cold month and snowy at that.  I will definitely never forget this month and enjoyed every minute of it.  Now I kinda got the idea of what it felt like living back in the late 70's in Chicago even though it was a little colder '78/'79.
