Was the phantom snow an issue for the EC a few years ago? Feels like it's gotten worse across all the models.

It's not phantom snow

Some of us are just parry poopers!

It shows the DP at 35F-36F that's gonna be some cold rain. Might get some snow above 1000' maybe.

If this had been even 1-2 weeks later it would've been epic...dang.

It’s pumping out 1-2in for Kuchera. Totally plausible which means a mix of rain & snow post likely tbh.

Could also be a case of a heavy shower dragging the snow level down to the surface briefly. Given the airmass it seems like it could happen. Around hour 186-192 later in the run…surface temps and 850mb, 925mb temps look better which could equate to a better shot. Either way we gotta wait until this weekend to get really excited about anything.

Pretty amazingly snowy for early November. Just more believably so than some recent Goofus runs. Not so sure about that 10.1 over Eugene.

Terrain bleed...Temps never get below 36 in EUG while the precip falls. Similar issue at PDX though surface temps there look a little more marginal. The ECMWF only has a 11km resolution. GFS is even worse at 12km.

Also took a look at the DPs…when the band of precip moves through the south sound at that time the DP is in the upper 20s with temps 34-35 degrees. That would be snow. The precip at hour 162 falls with a DP so that would likely be cold rain.

It's too bad to see more overwater trajectory in recent runs with the trough. Keeps things a lot milder for everyone. Would be nice if it trended just 2-300 miles further east.

Still plenty of time for it to trend back that way so we shall see!

As i mentioned with tim yesterday...i felt like euro had like half a dozen of these instances last winter for EPSL that ended up being zeroes....just constantly showing light snow accumulations that ended up being 35-38 degree rain (at 400 feet atleast)

The models had big issues with terrain bleed in my area last winter. This time, I see colors on the snow maps even well away from the mountains. That gives me hope I will see something.

If any white stuff falls IMBY it is going to be sloppy, slushy, and short-lived. Not buying any model run that claims otherwise.

Yeah any snowfall before hour 180 all falls with above freezing DPs…which wouldn’t be snow below 500-1000’. The only timeframe that had temps that made sense for snow falling was early Tuesday morning.
