The GFS shows us going into a dry / cold night pattern after the cold trough relaxes.  The 1936 analog may still be alive.

Which will complete the "circle of doom" and write off ANY chance of cold and snow.

If you're not familiar with the "circle of doom", it goes like this.

First the GFS drinks heavily, then decides to drive drunk down main street while throwing $$ out the window.

Cliff Mass, on his way to start another conspiracy theory at the local subway see this, grabs $8 off the street and immediately posts a long diatribe about the doomsday snow scenario 9 days out.

Local Twitter accounts start posting (NOT A FORECAST) while wishcasting how the Kuchera suite shows 97.42" at Alki with a 925mb of -1C

Then and (most importantly), NWS Portland hastily lofts a winter storm watch for localized snow amounts of up to 1.25" above 801-ft which ultimately causes the "circle of doom" to complete the process.

Surprised there’s so many leaves on the trees this late in the year. Could see a lot of tree damage if heavy snow falls next week.

Haven't really had any big storms yet.  Overnight and today has been pretty much it.

M'ladywife is done with surgery and back home safe, resting for a while. Thank y'all for the kind words. That is my next task!   I did get the boat winterized today.   Even though the boat sits in a separate garage all winter... its not heated and not worth the risk.   The mobile marine guy who came out today told me that he had 5 of his regular customers skip winterizing last fall and all 5 ruined their engines.   Presumably during that arctic outbreak around Christmas.

      It actually says more about how old I am, Jesse (22). Unfortunatley I can't share your memories of being serenaded with blessings in May 1998! edit: my main point was about green grass those two years were pretty green through mid July here, 2022 especially. Definitely not the norm of the last decade or so

      Ugh, The View. What a bunch of squawkers! He stood his ground and made Sunny Hostin look like an idiot. I have never heard of Coleman, but I completely agree with his argument. It's quite simple: By focusing on class rather than race, you are essentially still tending to the needs of the historically discriminated communities without all the justifiable blowback of race based policy. I do not know why that is so hard for some to understand. Focusing on commonality rather than differences yields a better society. But, you know what comes next... Those at the top do not want us working together. A divided nation is an easily led nation.

      April 2024 Weather in the PNW

      The fact that those are the two analogs you remember most readily for that sort of thing says more about the sad state of our climate than it does anything. 2019 actually had a top tier warm and dry May and an averagish June followed by a reasonable if not mild summer. 2022 had a coolish and wettish May followed by an averagish June, after which we descended directly into summer hellfire and didn’t look back until November. They’re getting pretty ancient now, but a couple better examples of a classic cool and wet May/June would be 2010 and 2012.

      I really hope May and June are a soaker. That usually keeps things lush into the early Summer. Already starting to see some brown in the backyard. Running out of time to save it before our wet season is used up. Nothing is worse than entering ASO browntown three months ahead of schedule and staying that way. The majority of 2014-18 were tinder dry and sickly colored. Hoping we go the route of 2019, or especially 2022.
