Pretty well advertised, but for some reason basically all guidance and forecasts still had them topping out in the mid-upper 40s today.

Pretty obvious we’d see a spike today given the diurnal onset of the offshore flow.

My preferences can beat up your preferences’ dad.

Not obvious enough for every forecast to show it. But yeah today has looked like a lock for low 50s for awhile, at least to me.

Up to 52 at PDX now, a balmy 46 at SLE. Starting to get the feeling this could turn into a really dark day on the forum.

Low 50s might be a bit optimistic.

Euro seems to be moving pretty decisively away from the backdoor cold idea. If we’re going to sit under a big ridge again like we did most of the last four months I’d just as soon the rain came back.

Given how non-Niña-like things have been recently, I have been wondering if this winter might somehow be a dud Niña. Not going to worry about it unless 10 days go by with no end in sight for the ridge.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Canada seems like a nice country. Is your society completely collapsing like the United States?

I have also always been under the impression one needs to earn a tremendous amount of money to live well in Canada. Say a family with 5 children makes a combined $140k USD annually, could they live well on Vancouver Island?

I would much rather go through this now than say the entire second half of January/ first half of February like last year.

Kind of tries to get there at the end but the pattern looks extremely tenuous and it’s at a range that’s been changing with literally every run. That said I’m sure Jim will have an aneurysm when he sees it.

Up to 41F already. It would have been nice to score some highs below 40, but even up here I'm not sure it's going to happen except for maybe places in the outflow. BLI is 37F currently.

140k usd would be like 190k Canadian. You’d be living quite well in shawnigan lake on that income.

SEA getting 30 mph North winds this morning.

Should be too much wind to drop too much tonight but tomorrow night looks much calmer. Hopefully clouds hold off and we get a nice solid hard freeze.

This little event has been rather enjoyable. I'm put in mind of 1988, 2000, and 2017. I definitely hope we transition into more of a normal November zonal pattern rather than a massive ridge. It would be wonderful to build a nice snowpack in the mountains and get the ski season off to a great start.

You can buy in our subdivision for 800-900k.  Probably not out of line with a lot of other places around the world.  We bought before housing prices jumped but our family of 4 live on an annual income of around 100k.  Average in our neighborhood is probably 130-140k annually.

I bought my house for 185K USD in 2011, the market has calmed down a little, but the last I checked it was estimated around $600K, pretty standard older (1974) house, on about 3 acres. Probably always going to pay a little more living on an island, I would also assume BC has fairly strict zoning/building laws. That is one thing people don't realize that makes the West Coast so much more expensive than say the Midwest. In Texas or Oklahoma there is little regulation, and few zoning restrictions. On the west coast there is always very tight supply which leads to artificial shortages.

Yeah, it makes sense. Personally, I am not opposed to some of the restrictive zoning laws we have, urban growth boundaries, etc... But we do pay for it.

I also know my neighbor cannot put a strip mall or casino on the vacant land next to us. It is zoned for timber production, but since they have owned it since before 1974 they can divide it into 9 acre plots. They never have, but it would not be the worst thing in the world.
