I know this is off topic but anyone following what is going on with FTX crypto exchange?

Amazing isn’t it, how much more stable currency backed up by mathematically sound algorithms is when compared to fiat currency created by governments and politicians?

Im just fascinated to see the fallout in that space. I only just started dabbling in crypto to start last year. One thing I've learned is never keep funds on an exchange. Centralized is centralized weather from the fed printing money from nothing or a computer wizard making magic internet money from nothing.

Same thing that happened with 3AC, Celcius, Voyager, and others.

I really wish we could undo Bretton woods and go back to the gold standard. 😪 but I don't think there is enuf gold to satisfy all the money printing that has compiled since then. It's all fuuugazzzi

My insider knowledge is working in the computing field and having run into the sort of cyber-libertarians for whom cryptocurrency is a big thing. They tend to be smug, conceited, overconfident, and quite unaware of how ignorant they actually are of how complex the world outside of their chosen field is. It’s really not a surprise that their creation is not as stable as their theories say it ought to be.

This is rapidly going off topic, but that is THE biggest problem with the gold standard: it is not as if the amount of gold in the world automatically matches the demand for currency in the global economy.

It still shows a dip at the time, but there is a lot of ensemble spread. Some members look a lot like the operational and others keep heights relatively high.

Stable coins are interesting. The hard part is having a financial backing. Unlike the Fed which doesn't have to prove something is backing fiat currency, stable coins, require financial backing.

I could definitely see the Fed creating a stable coin in the next 10 years backed by some tangible assets in the physical world. Hard thing would be on what layer 1/network, etc

Won't need to. CBDCs are real and will replace our normal dollars eventually. Will probably start as a cash cbdc hybrid system, then replace cash all together with it.

Hmmm. Just from reading an article on them, many stable coins are backed by… fiat currencies like the US dollar.

Yep. Likely will be required in the US. Algorithmic Stable coins are based in collateral. The collapse of Luna earlier this year was bc of it had its own algo stable which was over leveraged and boom.

I like the general idea of a CBDC. However that is the opposite idea for crypto. That would centralize a lot of things.

A CBDC is everything that crypto stands against.

Last season takes the streaky cake. Snowiest December ever! Then the driest Jan - March ever recorded

Ski season wise it’s very fortunate it wasn’t March that had all the snow. That 3 month dry spell would have been really rough to start the season.

I know its off topic, but if you mortgaged your retirement on digital pogz and monkey jpgs but then have the balls to tell me your views on monetary policy, I'll have to take you up on your discussion after your shift at Wendys has ended.

Anyway, my lawn sensors tell me its 34º in Everett.

No telling how that thing will actually evolve right now.  With another strong MJO wave just emerging the position of the blocking will change over time.

Not at all. One of the colder first 10 days of November on record and a lot of cold yet to come.  I guess at my age I'm sick of rain other than to keep things watered.  Cold and snow is where it's at for me.

Take this kind of banter with a grain of salt.  Nobody knows for sure, but the nuts of bolts that we have to work with this winter should favor a good outcome overall.

Very true.  The caveat is some years have more aces in the deck than others.  This year we have quite a few.

Get used to inversions and glancing blows for the winter. Maybe quick half inch snow falls that quickly transition to ZR for a short time then to rain. I’d be shocked if anything notable happens this winter.

and no, that’s not based on recent model runs.
