Very impressive stuff.  This is like stuff we saw pretty commonly in the 1920s and 1930s.  Uber continental air, but with high 850s and enough mixing to keep the maxes up.

Indeed, and it becomes even more interesting through Day 10 as strong east winds develop and temps are in the low-mid 30s from PDX to Hood River with moisture. The Dalles looks snowy.

A cool, crisp and clear 45/32 spread today. East winds are finally dying off here this evening with 32 as the current temp. Will be interested to see how low things go by morning.

The surface obs on the last 4 days of the ECMWF show well below normal temps again.  I'm liking the way things are unfolding.

If by some chance it's still windy around 6-8 PM Sunday then that would mark a full week of east winds.

It will probably become a freezing wind pretty soon now.  It has always amazed me the freezing power that a cold east wind has.  I have them here every now and then, and it is impressive.

That's closing in on being pretty.  No reason the improvements can't continue.

It will be interesting to see if the EPS also splits the energy in the trough Day 4 to 5 with the kona low cutting off.

We shall see. It still counts as another freeze tonight because it was below freezing before the clouds rolled in.

Yeah when I was looking at the size of it. It was definitely bigger than the average wasp. Unless it’s a hornet it has to be a queen wasp.

Fun little fact for the night.  It's colder in the NE quarter of WA tonight than it is in the Dakotas.

Yea. That pattern would have to hold for awhile to bring arctic air into the trough.   Not much support for that yet.

Once you cross the Cascades... its all the same all the way to Boston.   Its also why its so much more green on this side of the mountains in the winter and spring compared to every other place at out latitude.
