November 2022 PNW weather Discussion. #NoRidgeNovember

If this blocky regime holds up this could be the coldest winter a very long time.  The signs have been there for a while.  As I said earlier it's up to January.  Is it ready to give up the curse?

That's fine.  Nothing to dislodge the low level cold at that point.

Doesn't it seem like cold events are often preceded by over-performing wind events? Sat night and Tue evening could be breezy.

SE ridge is becoming more of a factor on the EPS than earlier runs.  Nothing but good news right now.

The 00Z has less strong high pressure in southern BC area, and that crazy low contributing to the warmup. It looks to be short lived and the track and strength of crazy low will no doubt continue to change in future runs. Past two runs

🦃 Happy Thanksgiving 🍗

I just wanted to wish you all a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday. I'm glad the weather will be cooperating for all of your travel destinations. This year it's very bittersweet since my brother suddenly passed this past June. It's just my Mother and I. That's my entire family now. It will be very scaled back. It gives me clearer perspective and appreciation for her more than ever and I'll need that. It's going to be rough. I also wanted to mention as tacky as it might sound? but I am thankful for this weather forum, all of the model riding, discussions, differing personalities, and humor. Definitely humor.

Make the best of this holiday, and make new, lasting memories.

Now let's get some Cold and SNOW! C'MON!!!!
❄️☃️❄️⛄️❄️🌬❄️☃️❄️⛄️❄️🌬

Happy Thanksgiving to you too Rob and everyone else!

So sorry for your loss brother. Life is certainly way too short, so enjoy what you can.

I'm fortunate enough to add another family member this year (got married) after losing my mom a little more than a year ago. Certainly helped a lot.

Anyways, be safe and enjoy!

I found this site a couple weeks ago while referring to 1985 in this forum. Only used once, but it seems pretty good. https://weatherspark.com/h/m/913/1985/11/Historical-Weather-in-November-1985-in-Seattle-Washington-United-States#Figures-Temperature

EDIT - oops, you want 850T. Sorry.

You might be able to find it by digging through the old December discussions from last year. Bad luck if people didn't actually share images but links... because those become dead after a while. This is why we usually upload image files on here for archive purposes, but not everyone does.

Down to 39. The fog has been getting pretty thick in downtown Duvall. Up on the hill where I live at about 400 feet it hasn’t really gotten to that elevation yet. Don’t know if I will hit freezing tonight it’s going to be close.

Looks like it's a bit unfortunate we lost the 2021 PNW December because it was started by Fred, any threads that was started by him is gone. We lost the archive for a pretty good month last year.

Actually I've got some 2021 forecasts 850Ts in my 2021 ShareX screencap/weather maps folder on my PC. A trip down memory lane.

You can dig through this. Probably the best one I was able to find.

http://weather.uwyo.edu/upperair/sounding.html

I filtered it out for the UIL station and by just browsing through, looked like we were around -10 to -12C at 850 or ~1500 meters for Dec 2021.  You'll want to look through the Dec. 25-31 time frame since that was when we had our cold blast.

That's actually exactly what I was looking for. I found the records for each day of the year for Quillayute, but I couldn't find historical records. Thanks a lot and now it's bookmarked!

I think a full payback for June 2021 would be Jan 30 through Feb 5, 1893.  Wicked cold and tons of snow.  I'm pretty sure there were some -30 to -35 departures on Jan 31 and Feb 1.

Maybe 2021 was actually the payback for 1893. 😱

Ended up with a 48/36 day here. Some interesting cloud patterns earlier this afternoon with a deck of high clouds moving in and a band of low clouds and fog hugging the Columbia River most of the day. PDX was actually cooler than here. Dense fog here now and 36 which was also a midnight low.

Another thing I like is we have a solid shot at this being the third winter a row with freezing max temps.

That would be a pretty good accomplishment at SEA considering the fact there weren’t any freezing max temps there for 7 years straight prior to that.
