Got the generator fired up and everything set for an extended outage. Wind gusts shook the house most of the night, was lovely with the bright mood though! Luckily no trees fell across the driveway but I am going to have quite the cleanup around the property. Will do a full inspection when the sun comes up.

Yeah, the wind did that for us, I was part of "most" of the county, just didn't mention it.  And I guess it was about 20-30 minutes before the post, I had to go around and make sure folks had flashlights and that we didn't lose anything outside.

It registered at 32 mph on my weather station which is impressive for my location.  I have a wooded area behind my house (to the south)  and most of the trees still have their leaves.

I think the last time I experienced something like that, it was December 1996, and I was standing on the roof of my house in Albany, Or just east of I-5.  It was wide open with pretty much no trees to speak of for several hundred yards in all directions.  I was putting up Christmas lights when it hit.  Thankfully I was just finishing up, but it was pretty scary trying to get down.

Edit:  Now that I think about it, it may have been December 1995...

We had a power outage for about 3-5 mins around 4:30a. It was enough to wake everyone up. Also since I work from home my equipment makes a chirping noise when the power comes back on and CPU lights up in the next room even if off.

Snohomish county got hit really bad.

Ended up with 0.73" yesterday and 0.13" this morning for a storm total of 0.86".

Still much less than what was modeled, but I'm just glad to be in an active pattern rather than endless ridging.

Wow that’s pretty weak. We had 3.18”, 4.63 on the month.

I’m actually surprised we didn’t get multiple 70s this month. The mid range is as ugly as it gets. Whenever Jim says the pacific is shut down we usually get a week or two of split flow crap.

Also nice to see PDX sneak in a 60 yesterday. I was getting worried there might be a month this year that they didn’t. December/January are usually a lock for multiple 60+ days so this was probably their best shot.

Here is the question… will PDX get below 35 next week?

Sat in the donut hole all day.  Ended up with .04 with almost no wind to speak of with a gust of 12 mph.  Could have done yardwork yesterday--but I didn't.

Yep that rain was a no show here too.  The wing however was not, it was howling last night and almost 60 degrees.  Woke up to frost/ice on my windshields? Anybody else?

Non-phantom GFS snowfall map for BC and Whatcom County. This is what is modeled to fall between 12z and 18z on Monday morning, when surface temperatures are modeled to be at or below freezing.

I don’t like that one, let’s go back to seeing the pretty ones with the awesome colors like blue and purple and whatnot.

It shows upper 30s from Seattle southward at that time and somehow shows more snow down there.

Yes, I know the map says 15z to 18z, but between 12z and 15z it is modeled to be dry.

Tis the season! Good size trees down on my road, a group of us showed up at the same time to cut the smaller one up to get access out from our road. On my to do list…Sharpen chainsaw chain! Didn’t get to that one yet but I still got through the tree.

Yes, it's the old phantom snow problem again. I selected that map because for Whatcom/Lower Mainland, it is a time frame when both (a) moisture, and (b) surface temperatures at or below freezing are modeled.

And I will note that the Euro shows exactly zero non-phantom lowland snow in this area.

I also go to the ICON and GEM for a reality check when the GFS is showing lots of snow... neither of those models show anything on their 12Z runs.

Whenever Snohomish Co gets hit hard like it did last night we are usually one of the last ones to get back online but I’m good with it. The only thing I wish we had was a wood burning stove/fireplace. Our Geothermal HVAC system is not on generator power and I don’t like using our propane fireplace as a constant heat source just because of propane prices but it is what it is. Perhaps when we do a major remodel that we are planning to do hopefully in the next 5yrs or so we will incorporate one in.

Guess I won’t bother with the snow plow install this weekend now.

Casting a spell for snow, I see. Thank you.

Perhaps a bit more for Whatcom and LM? This shows the entire time frame between 12z and 18z Monday, basically the entire time when it is modeled to be below freezing at the surface with moisture falling.

Ended up with 2.22 inches of rain yesterday! We had ONE 32mph gust of wind. Lights didn't even flicker. Color me disappointed.

I don't have strong memories of many past storms, like a lot of yall, but I DO remember the Inaugural Day Storm. I don't remember what year it was, but I was in elementary school, so 90s sometime?  I remember standing at the bus stop, and a tree came down right by us, blocking the road in our neighborhood. We were without power for quite a long time.

Only 1 Inaguratuon in early '90's, so even when I don't remember the date, I can work it out. Jan 20, 1993.

And I didn't get to see any of it because we were at school and they moved us in rooms that had no windows. So we just got to hang out for hours in a cold, mostly dark school and wait for the storm to be over so they could bring the buses in to take us home. (We didn't have power for 5 days I think.)
