Just a matter of precipitation rates bringing down the snow level to the surface…and easterly gradients helping pool cold air along the coastal range in the west Willamette valley. The cold air is here too…just not as chilly since there hasn’t been precipitation for the most part since this morning.

This is just the beginning.  I think they got heavier rain with the first band which is why it got colder down there.  Maybe some maritime polar air was able to sweep down there (and bypassed WA) as well.

CVO back down to 32. Precip continues.

Pretty crazy to see Corvallis colder than Omak in this setup.

Not sure about the ECMWF precip maps up here for tonight... the 18Z ECMWF shows solid precip happening right now between 4-5 p.m. but its still dry here and I just checked cams down south around Morton under those weak radar echoes and its dry there too.

The ECMWF continues much higher with 925s tomorrow night than the GFS.  Weird.  At any rate it appears there are snow chances for the Puget Sound area both tonight and tomorrow night.

The models have really gone cold for Tuesday and Wednesday nights.  The 18z ECMWF suggests temps well below freezing by mid evening particularly Wednesday night.

As for snow...anyone who doesn't get any should take heart in the fact this is incredibly early and any snow at all is a total bonus.

WWA for the south valley. 38 degrees currently with slightly chunky rain.

We certainly know the magic setup for Douglas and Okanogan Counties now.  A very cold / deep trough with strong SSW flow over WA.  This is a pretty rare combo.

Yeah definitely…it’s no big deal if there’s no snow the next couple nights very rare to even see snowflakes in the first half of November even way back in the 20th century.

That was basically me on Tuesday. We had exactly an inch but had to wait two days until our first official freeze. Surprise snow as well as snow the first week of Nov or sooner or any in April is the best.

Curious as to why the wet bulb effect is so pronounced in this storm. Doesn't seem to happen that often.

Winter wonderland up above about 2,400' on Anderson Mt! Sadly forgot to take pics of the trees, they didn't look too happy with all the wet snow hanging on them. Got a decent pic of the Sisters range though, sorry if it uploads in potato quality I'm not sure how to get around that.

Probably be best to get in your vehicle and turn on your lights and wipers. That's the only way to be sure.

270'.  As of 5:20 pm there's still flakes coming down, sticking to the grass with slush on the roadways with about 0.5" accumulation.  32.5° and 1.59" total precip on the day so far, with the bulk of that falling between 4:30 am and 10:30 am before it started changing over to snow.

Even areas east of Eugene, the snow level is much lower there than up here

 

Total whiteout conditions in parts of the cascades with snow coming down sideways. Interesting watching the AR melt a bunch of the snow and now its quickly back to all frozen and white.

18Z trying to sell an inch of snowfall between 7-8pm tomorrow at OLM with temp around 35 degrees.
Certainly possible, I suppose, and if it did snow I could see it sticking around and causing trouble for Tuesday morning, with overnight temps hovering right around freezing in the outlying areas. 850s at -3 at this time.

Looking at the models, it really seems it’s about it so far as it goes for snow IMBY. Got to see flakes fly on November 6th, so I really can’t complain! 1.00" for the day and I am not expecting much more. 36.0˚F.
