A Clipper is forecast to originate out of the Yukon Territories of far NW Canada and dive south through Manitoba, CA to close out the month of January.  Models are varying on the strength/track of this system.  Let's discuss the potential to add on more snow to this paltry month in the snow dept.

Here was the 06z GFS...

South trend wins out for once! :)

Since it's a clipper I would be watching the trends of the Canadian as it should have a better feel for these type of systems.

Per Amwx poster in OH:

"dont say this very often but the CMC had this nailed from the get go....all other models were way too far north. Even last night models continued to come south....congrats CMC! lol"

Busy morning with travel snowy fun - ha!  GRR's been slow to show many reports but I was up to a bit under 4.5" at 6 am and there was more to come down. I see IWX has a storm report out and with 4.9" reported near Litchfield about 25 miles southeast of Marshall. Looks like their (GRR's) map yesterday with some 4-6" jack-zones over here verified nicely. First and only plow-worthy snowfall for January for my place. Nice to hear city plows come by about 4 am :D  Niko how'd you do over that way?

I measured 3.7" IMBY. Its awesome out there. Second snowfall for January in my area. This makes my grand total of 8.5inches for the month. :D I am 5 tenths shy of being on average snowfall for the month of January. Not too shabby considering it was a mild month overall.

Btw: More snow by afternoon. They are calling for another inch, so I might break the average and be above average for the month.

Niko lives at elevation;-)

Negative elevation?

LOL, you've not been in Macomb Cnty have you? It's like 2ft above lake level and the true elevation just west in Oakland Cnty often causes down-sloping. We had posters in our MI forum that constantly complained what a snow hole it was. :-/

5.3" total - 2nd biggest storm of the season for mby. Snow blowers in da 'hood this evening was great to see!

I do have an elevation as a matter of fact.

From Wikipedia:

Macomb Township is a general law township and northern suburb of Detroit located in Macomb ... Water, 0.04 sq mi (0.1 km2) 0.06%. Elevation, 604 ft (184 m). :)

Reports of thundersnow around Eau Claire a bit ago with whiteout conditions.

Didn't hear any thunder but I did get about 2" in about an hour when that same snow band moved through. Out snowmobiling and it was hard to see through the silver dollar size wet snow. Awesome surprise!

I do have an elevation as a matter of fact.

From Wikipedia:

Macomb Township is a general law township and northern suburb of Detroit located in Macomb ... Water, 0.04 sq mi (0.1 km2) 0.06%. Elevation, 604 ft (184 m). :)

Btw: Nice total.  My total is 4.2". Still a few leftover snowshowers out there, but, the accumulating snow is done with.

Thanks! Getting bulls-eyed by this clipper helps ease my pain of getting shafted on almost every other clipper the past 2 yrs.  Now this is how a clipper is done!

I stand corrected, you're a whopping 30 ft above lake level. My "2 ft" was kinda tongue-in-cheek cuz I knew it wasn't hundreds of feet. ;)
