Up to about 3.5 inches with some new 7.5 inch drifts in spots. Went for a night walk and it's very wintry out there with the snow still coming down fairly decently.

This little guy definitely over-performed today. NWS was calling for up to an inch here. Hopefully a good sign for the New Years Day storm.

New Year new luck! Hopefully a sign of things to come!

Good Morning! The official H/L for yesterday at Grand Rapids was 54/40 t is the 2nd warmest high and the 2nd warmest minimum for any December 29th at Grand Rapids. There was no rain or snow fall yesterday and there was 12% of possible sunshine. The day started with 8” of snow on the ground. The reading stayed at 54 past midnight and for today that 54 is now also the 2nd warmest for any December 30th at Grand Rapids. At the last reading at GRR the temperature was 54 with a DP of 52 for a very warm December morning to say the least. The snow pack that was 18” on Monday is now almost all gone and here in MBY there are just trace amounts and of course the snow piles. For today the average H/L is 33/22 the record high for today is 60 in 1936 and the record low of -11 was is 1976. The most snow fall of 7.0” was in 2001.

Not if it is correct but temperatures have been reported in the 60's at Holland Michigan since yesterday afternoon. That is a good 10° higher than other reading in the area. So not sure what to make of that.

At this time there is no cold air in the foreseeable future so the first half of January will be very mild.

Park City, UT has been my pre-season target for bountiful Snow this ski season.  They picked up 2 feet in the last 24-48 hours and this brings the season total to 14 FEET so far when an avg season they get about 232" (19.3 Feet).  Pretty friggin' remarkable.  Given the pattern that has set up and will likely continue well into the Spring, I bet they surpass 20 Feet of Snow by end of JAN which is tremendous for the entire region.  I'm thrilled to see the S Rockies getting pounded by one storm after another.  It's really a blessing from mother nature and I remember when I visited the area back in early Aug that something was brewing for this area based on the Monsoon patterns and personal gut feeling.

Not to mention, but Snowbowl in Flagstaff got another Foot the other day and will get more through the New Year and beyond.  I love what I'm seeing!

These guys should have some interesting observations and videos over the next few days.

Another beauty of a day coming up today with temps rising into the upper 50's - normal high temps are around 40 degrees. Rain moves in tomorrow afternoon and will last through New Years Eve. Sunday and Monday look to continue warm and sunny with temps in the low to mid 50's, More showers arrive on Tuesday night and Wednesday. We look to chill back closer to normal by Thursday and into next weekend.
The record high for today is 63 degrees set way back in 1898. The record low is 9 below zero set in 1917. The daily rain record is 1.56" from 1912. Our daily snow record is the 3.8" that fell just 5 years ago in 2017.

For today New Year’s Eve. At Grand Rapids the warmest was 60 in 1965, I was in Alpena that year and the high on that day up there was 62. The record low of -14 was in 1976 the wettest was 0.75” in 1978 when 8.2” of snow fell. The most snow for the date is 9.7” in 1978. For New Years day the record high is 56 way back in 1897 it reached 55 in 2011. The record low of -15 was set in 1968 and 1964. The wettest is 0.65” in 1985 of that 2.0” was snow there was 5.6” of snow the night before and there was a major ice storm in the Kalamazoo area. The record snow fall for any January 1st at Grand Rapids is 5.7” in 1995.

The official H/L at Grand Rapids yesterday was 54/38 that high of 54 is the 2nd warmest maximum and the low of 38 ties for 1992 for the 2nd warmest minimum for any December 30th at Grand Rapids. There was 0.03” of rain fall there was no snow fall and there was a trace of snow on the ground. The average H/L for today is 33/21 the record snow fall of 9.7” fell in 1957.

Happy New Year's Eve to all! A little foggy to start the final day of 2022. Rain chances will be increasing during today and into the evening. Sun returns for New Years Day and Monday before showers return for mid week. Wednesday looks to be the warmest day of the week with temps more than 20 degrees above normal in the low 60's. Wednesday's record high looks a bit out of reach for Chester County (67 degrees from 1950) but spots toward Philly may approach records highs. We should see a return to more typical January temperatures by the end of the week.
The record high for today is 64 degrees set in 1965. The record low is 5 below zero from 1917. Daily rain record is the 1.68" that fell in 1906. Daily snow mark is the 5.0" that fell today in 1970.

KDTW scored 1.21" qpf with this 2-day rain event. Over-achieved a bit from the maps I saw. We can do that on warm storms. Cold storms, now that's a different story.

This will end up the 6th snowiest December for Sioux Falls.

Look at 68-69 as snowiest winter. 94 inches! Over a foot more than any other season. Looks like that's made up of 1.9 in Nov, 41.1 in Dec, 19.6 in Jan, and 28.5 in February. Our average is 45 inches over the course of the season. That's crazy.

Record winters are often close to double the "norm", so actually that is just about perfect.

December snowfall has been pretty light here since the epic December of 2009 (19.2") which featured the Christmas blizzard. The average snowfall since then (2010-2022) is 10% of that.

Dec 2009: 19.2"

Dec Avg 2010-2021: 1.9"

Dec 2022: 1.5"
