925mb temp loop from 06Z ECMWF.  A couple interesting things... you can clearly see the cold air damming around the Hood Canal later today and the basin of Central WA just traps cold air and never let's go!

Cold pool developing and this time it's going to be a bitter one. The models do poorly at handling these situations. I don't see any systems coming to scour it out either.

Maybe the precip today will be just enough east and it'll be just cold enough for a surprise snowstorm

Getting some holy sh*t snow here.

Wow!

I told my wife to leave early today based on the radar.    Just a few flurries out here so far but she just called from 405 in Bellevue to tell me its dumping snow there and sticking to the freeway.    Normally she experiences the opposite with the snow issues out here and then its fine once she gets to Issaquah.

Snowing pretty good here and roads are white again. Surprised this little impulse had this much coverage. Good example of how unpredictable snow is. This shower would be a blip that was barely noticed normally with under 0.05” of rain.

This is a great point.   I usually run the 1-hour precip loop on the models because it shows the timing more clearly and this looked like nothing from that perspective in the models.    But when there is cold air... very little precip can still be quite snowy!

Radar returns are picking up in SW WA…not sure what’ll end up happening today. Maybe it’ll end up colder than expected if we stay under consistent precip? Or SE winds warm us up either way?

I am at 33.3* and can hear the snow melting/falling from the trees now..... DP is at 30.6*. Had some south winds and the temp just jumped.

Yeah we will see what happens. Still 31 here. Right now I anticipate it’ll be warmer this afternoon than yesterday afternoon but it’s hard to say what will happen. Has been some interesting surprises the last few days.

Currently 2 here in Omak, 31 and at home apparently.
Looks like a WWA was hoisted for today/tonight at home.

Also I have noticed the PNA was forecasted to head positive in the extended a few days ago, but each day that has been sinking further and further down!

Maybe, if I put all my fans outside....blowing NW.....they will suck the radar returns the right way, as well as cool off the air more, so it'll be a guarantee of snow?!!?

No? Doesn't work that way? D**n.......

I went outside to measure  and there was just a trace. Not even a tenth of an inch. But still pretty to look at.

Dusting here. Not currently snowing either. A nice prelude for hopefully some meaningful accumulation later tonight.

KSEA got down to 27 and was 37/28 yesterday, not bad!

I had to look up where Moses Lake was. Only 1k elevation in the middle of Washington. Very impressive cold air!

It is cause here in Spokane Valley I'm at 2100' and its 14.  I've determined that the Spokane/I-90 corridor in this area is pretty much 'The Swamp' of NE WA.  I assume it's some Urban Heat Island going on, but the wind stayed up and it never really got fully clear out here overnight.  it is clearing now and the temp dropped 2 degrees in the last hour

That band looked really impressive on radar when it rolled through here... but all we got was a 2-minute period of flurries.

They also get shadowed often being in Central Washington.

@TT-SEA there is a huge precip jump for the 12z GFS….. @MR.SNOWMIZER could get a 9-12in possibly

06 ECMWF also showed more precip extending east than its 00Z run... but it shows 925 temps around +1C overnight so it doesn't amount too much.   The GFS shows a 925 temp of around -1C and that is why its snowier.
