PNW December 2022, winter might be coming; but mostly canceled.

I had the pleasure driving through The Dalles and Hood River on Wednesday. The scenery south of The Dalles is absolutely breathtaking. A very underrated part of the state. The temp on my car thermometer was about 43 in The Dalles and 36 at Hood River. Lots of chunky rain until after Cascade Locks which was also 36. There was no snow in The Dalles while Hood River had several inches of wet slop. If you are a snow/cold lover, The Dalles would be a no go, but it has great scenery regardless.

@MR.SNOWMIZER Thanks for making me investigate! Apparently I somehow got my Weather Station app linked to the totally wrong station, lol. Now I'm on the right one and it's 32.5 here.

My temp reports have been wrong for the last 2 days! I have brought shame to my family.

I have 2 stations and one analog meter.

We come from the land of the ice and snow.

I just have no clue how it decided I was in an entirely different area. I am usually pretty good at keeping it set on this one particular station about 100ft from my front door, and ignoring all others. Oh well.

I'm pretty surprised how much the ECMWF increased the snowfall totals for the East Puget Sound Lowlands tonight on the 18z vs 12z.  I'll have to see it to believe for MBY, but there is some pretty cold air in play.  It's currently 34 here with a light breeze and precip hasn't begun yet.

Is it possible this could over-perform? I’m cautiously optimistic. 34° in Covington and no east wind at all.

Possible.  I never get too hopeful in cases like this though.  Sunday is looking progressively more interesting as the time frame narrows, however.

Wind picking up here... I thought it was snowing but it was just snow blowing off the trees.     I can still see the moon through high clouds so it will take awhile.

Unfortunately I don’t have much hope for Sunday. Too marginal and mid day. Maybe flakes in the air But that’s about it.

I think you would have to be close to the gorge to have much of a shot.

Mid December 1968 is coming up as an analog on the CPC site.  We had nice little warning shot in that time frame which came just before the mother lode of Arctic air.

Temp has went up 1 degree to 33 and just a mix here. Very surprised to see that.

The east wind is pretty anemic here thus far.  Not sure how much your success relies on that.  I'm betting you will go to snow soon though.

Currently 34 with a DP of 27. Not really expecting more than a dusting but with how much moisture there is maybe this will over perform.

Nope.  Just patches in the shade.  It was pretty warm the day before yesterday and a few rain showers washed it all away.  Snow starts showing up on the ground about the middle of Bend as you head south.

Almost never see east wind here. During arctic outflow the cold comes down the Olympics into the canal and filters in that way. Just about all snow now. Didn't take long.

I like Mosier/Rowena and the old Highway 30 a lot. Would not want to drive it in any kind of snow or ice though.
