PNW December 2022, winter might be coming; but mostly canceled.

I had .20 on the snowboard. Mostly snow but a very small bit of graupel. Is graupel counted as snow or as ice? It was about 85% snow so I'm think I will just count it as snow, but what is the official way to count a snow/graupel mix?

edit: I think it and sleet are counted but not frz. But I'm not 100%. I checked and had to refresh my board just after 12:30 because the mix made any future accumulation uneven.

Right, but the snow totals going north will follow a pretty linear curve with a sharp gradient. I have little doubt flurries will make it as far as snohomish county, but the real accumulations appear held to south of the city.

Who knows though, maybe this thing jogs north in the next hour or so and parks itself over my place. I've seen it happen before, and some CAMs last night were hinting at it. But like I said, not holding my breath. I've been blessed in this location in the last few years. Sharing the love, even if it is so, so painfully close, is still very much a positive thing to me.

Oh yeah I would be shocked if I see any accumulations. Just want a few flakes is all

When you get out drop your air pressure to around 20 psi. That is a safe pressure still and the traction will increase dramatically.

Great to know!

Snowflake rated tires and common sense is all you need.  Of course you can't account for the other idiots on the road.

Yep! Most of the time the pass closes is because of idiots not chaining up or driving over the pass on bald tires. Pisses me off!!

We come from the land of the ice and snow.

I wonder if the NWS station in Portland will officially measure anything today. We are at maybe 1/3” here on cars and grassy surfaces so far. Nothing on the road. Too bad temps aren’t just a degree or two colder since it’s been coming down steadily since about 9am.

Yeah West of Portland isn't really good in terms of snow, it keeps melting from the dirt and grass then snows again and redoes it. It said 1-3 inches but its not likely and its not sticking on the road because its 33.

Weather! Atmospheric conditions

Absolutely nothing in Everett and things are starting to drip. I’m guessing that’s all she wrote for this cold snap.

time to get excited for climate norms. Judah weenie write ups and Joe “Kevin Martin” Bastardi giving the Farmers Almanac a run for its money in predictive accuracy.

Probably time to shut the place down until our March Nino Watch party.

Have salvaged a solid dusting here now on the grass/bark but yeah, not gonna get much further in all likelihood.
