PNW December 2022, winter might be coming; but mostly canceled.

Looks like a pattern reset may be in order to end the month... Sets us up nicely for a January 1703 redux.

In all seriousness, it does not feel like winter ends in early December this year. Jan/Feb will offer great potential.

MEGA Mountain snow the next week.

Was about to say that... Might challenge some all time 72 hour snowfall records above the passes where single digit weather and constant precip will thump feet of snow with ease.

oh and btw.  has SEA got their shiit together yet?  I have to fly through there tomorrow for a quick biz trip up to Vancouver on Tues/Wed

Welcome up! Wednesday is an in-office day for me if you can meet for lunch (I work in Gastown near the steam clock).

Disappointing (and kinda hard to believe) that SEA didn't pick up anything measurable yesterday. But they still managed 4.4" this past week, not too shabby.

I live about a mile west of the airport and got measurable snow. No way SeaTac didn't as well given they are higher in elevation than me too.

Only 34 at SLE as of 10:15am. Could they pull off a 2nd straight sub-40 high?!

Weather observer is a job that requires very little labor or actual work, but you have to be consistent, focused, and 100% accurate. Not a task that everyone can handle.

And on one of the maybe 5-10 days that it's actually relevant (i.e. recording snowfall), they screwed the pooch. Honestly doesn't give you a lot of faith in the entire system of climate data when a major station like that is apparently so incompetent.

Let’s not even talk about the weird 90s missing snow reporting…

2022-23 Winter:

11/29: .25" + 1" = 1.25" | 11/30: .25"

12/2: .2" + .5" = .7" | 12/3: .2" | 12/4: trace

12/18: .4" | 12/19: .2" + .8" = 1.0" | 12/20: .2 + 1.5" = 1.7

1/31: trace | 2/14: trace | 2/22: .2 | 2/26: 1.0"

Total: 6.7"

Yeah... The sympathetic interpretation is that they were more focused on issues related to airport operations. Recording accurate climate data is probably a secondary goal to ensuring safe take-offs and landings.

Unfortunately I arrive around 10pm Tuesday and have wall to wall meetings with Clients on Wednesday and back home that evening.  Wish I had more time in the city but I'll actually be in Richmond and Surrey
