I figured you were on a long trip. BTW, did you get hit by those flooding rains last week I think it was??? Going to be a fantastic few days around these parts with a taste of Northwoods air. Can't wait.

No it was just to my north and east. I had just over an inch total during the week i was gone so it wasnt too much imby.

0.53" here last evening, which is far below the expectation a couple days ago.  The widespread clouds/showers ruined the event for most of Iowa.  Except for the 2+ week hot/dry stretch in June, we've been getting regular moderate rain events that have kept us around average(and kept the grass green).  Unlike recent summers, we have not had any big events(3+").  Our biggest rain event since April has been only 1.2".

Well it is now late July and here in the Grand Rapids area it is getting (for this area) kind of dry. As only 1.12” has been recorded this month and Since July 13th GRR has only recorded 0.07” of rain. And there has only 3 days with thunderstorms so far, this July.  On the temperature front the month mean of 72.8 (+0.1) almost exactly average. There has only been one day that it has gotten to 90°

There was some discussion as to what I think was if the one side of the state is “drier” than the other side well here is a site that has the Dew Points for the state of Michigan

http://www.usairnet.com/weather/maps/current/michigan/dew-points/

Meanwhile, finally, south of you along the I-94 corridor we've been doing so well, this MAY be the greenest July of my life? (I know July 2010 had a lot of flooding rains but I was in TX that yr not in Marshall)

Having said that, I see this current system is "DOA" with not a sprinkle to be had, so the month could finish on a dry note. Difficult to sustain any pattern except drought (lol) for an entire calendar month, especially since the elements don't acknowledge our calendar/seasons.

B) 2000th post - huh

Good morning!  It feels wonderful waking up to lower humidity levels and being able to sleep with the window cracked open while the sound of the trees/leaves whisking from the stiff breeze out of the NE.  Almost feels like an early autumn-like day in Sept.

Superb forecast!  I come back and Ma Nature delivers the goods.  Can't ask for a better 5-day forecast during late summer.

Aside from the breezy and choppy conditions on LM yesterday, I would have to say it was a success!  Great wx all around, but it got kinda cool as the sun began to set behind the city skyline.  All in all, a solid day on the water.

Here was a short vid inside the Play Pen.  Let me know if it works.

For the most part, July ended up near normal temp wise near the Lakes/OV and pockets of above normal in the southern Plains, while the central Plains baked.

I believe ORD ended up with a +0.7F anomaly and a Top 6 ranking in the precip dept.

Not 6th wettest like Chicago, but Marshall did make the GRR summary. A tad dry at the end, but otherwise a great summer month around my place

  • 3 weeks later...

It may be, due in part to the sandy soil in SWMI allowing the rain to drain through the top-soil better. I remember a lot of clay in SEMI and it seems the moisture just sat on top

Yeah, Oct was sunny and 80F every day!

Sounds fun! Enjoy Niko buddy

Thanks! :D
