Hey Niko, you look to get your first "taste" of an autumn-like clipper tomorrow...

Beat me to this. Yeah, clipper style action. And if we do get some convection, that'll be a great sign going forward. Like Niko said, there's been so little around, though I scored that rare 90 min storm on the 17th.

By departures from normal (going by Chicago data), the recent anomalous warmth stretches rank March 2012 first, February 2017 2nd and September 2017 third.

For anyone comparing the recent heatwave and where it ranked, I snagged this from another site. I believe he's an NWS-Chicago MET, so it's a reliable ranking. I personally don't care for extreme heat and/or drought, so last week's event didn't so much for me. Having said that, I'm glad the 1st and 2nd place heatwaves were early tastes of spring, not in the middle of an already hot summer. I actually made use of and enjoyed Feb's warmth playing tourist downtown Chicago and similar stuff back in Morch of '12  ;)

I had the windows open last night and a 30 second shower, literally, sprinkled my area when the re-enforcing cold front came through.  Can't wait for the wetter pattern to begin later next week.

Interesting, lake effect rain showers may skirt NE IL beginning around midnight tonight...

nam3km_mslp_pcpn_frzn_ncus_25.png

There may even be some lake effect showers off of Huron near Niko's place...

I received a few raindrops overnight as the front came through. Although, not enough to satisfy the abnormally dry conditions in the area.

I'll take any lake effect rainshower to help the drought situation. Reinforcing shot of cool air will feel great.

Currently sunny and coolish with temps in the low 50s (52F). Everything is wet outside, as rainshowers departed my area not long ago.

Finally, we are back to reality today wx wise, as it feels like a normal autumnal day out here in Chi.  Blue skies with cool temps holding in the upper 60's and a stiff breeze out of the NW.  This is more like it.  Planning on heading out for some King Salmon fishing early Sun am prob up near Winthrop harbor.  Hope the lake quiets down by then as there may be residual swells from the NE winds.

On this last day of September, temps locally only dipped down into the low 50's this morning IMBY, but places just west of me into the low/mid 40's.  Some upper 30's showing up near Burlington, WI and across the lake near Benton Harbor and Kalamazoo.  Radiational cooling did the trick with clear skies and calm winds.  #Refreshing

At the Lincoln airport, the month of Aug- I mean September finished with a mean temperature of 70.3, which is 4.3 above the normal September mean temperature of 66. The coldest minimum temperature recorded was 43, which occurred on the 6th. The warmest minimum temperature was 75, on the 22nd. The warmest maximum temperature was 97 on the 22nd, and the coldest maximum temperature was 64, just three days later on the 25th. The total precipitation for the month was 1.85", most of which fell on the 24th and the 25th. While we are not experiencing the same drought conditions some are in the Midwest, that was still 1.17" below normal. One record was tied during the month, that being the record warm minimum of 75 on the 22nd. The last time that occurred was 1937. No new records were set for the month.

Likely we see those temps opposite that mid-winter is my gut feeling.
